Cell Organization - Helpful Links

is a link to a video that teaches the building blocks of the body from cells to organ systems. Taped for about a 6th grade audience, this video would be a good lesson for students to gain an understanding of how important cell function is as a precondition for all of our other body makeup to work. The video would probably serve the most purpose at the end of the cellular organization presentation.

is a link to a site that offers information on the many different organelles of the cell. There are also short quizzes on the cell from an overview quiz to quizzes on function and specific organelles. This site is specifically 4 kids so it offers a lot of information but on a student’s level of understanding. Students may navigate the site themselves or the quizzes may be referenced during or after the presentation for the students to interact and review as a class. Quizzes can be found under Activities at the top of the page.

is a link to a cell model animation where one can choose between an animal or plant cell and interact with the cell by scrolling over the various parts and learning more about them at each single click. This site may prove to be useful for students to navigate themselves to further extend the lesson on cell organization.

is an activity that includes students acting out the different functions of the cell by playing the roles of the organelles. This would help students to better visualize the functions of the cell as they are played out by their fellow classmates. Equipped with a script and a list of props, this activity will keep the students away from strict memorization and instead allow them to actually experience the material themselves.

is another activity that allows the students to express their creativity when learning about cellular organization. This activity involves the construction of a cell with candy and other edible parts that represent the parts of a cell. Because of the length of time that it would take to build these cells, this would most likely be an outside project that students would have to complete at home. A good activity for group work and expression of creativity, the students would learn the different parts in comparison to something they all know and love, candy!

is a link to the Cell Bingo lesson found on the PEER website that was mentioned in the request as a useful mid lesson review.
