$24.5M in Orlando convention biz coming in May

Convention business in Orlando is just as vital as those leisure travelers with the socks and sandals. Thankfully, looks like

May is prime for a busy time - about $24.5 million in economic impact from eight events - at the Orange County Convention Center.

Convention business at the center amounts to more than $2 billion each year and helps create leisure vacations and fill hotel rooms, and brings business to other service providers of the tourism industry like restaurants, transportation and more.

According to the center's calendar, some of the events coming in May include:

- The Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology will attract 11,000 attendees to Orlando from May 4-8.

- The American Urological Association will host an event at the center from May 16-20 with more than 17,000 medical professionals in attendance.

- The Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International is in town from May 13-16 and drawing 8,500 attendees to the region.
