A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE LEE CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL “LADY STALLIONS” GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM ON WINNING THE CLASS AA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP FOR THE THIRD CONSECUTIVE SEASON, TO COMMEND THEM FOR THE HARD WORK, COMPETITIVE SPIRIT, AND TEAMWORK IT TOOK TO BECOME A CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM, AND TO WISH THEM EVERY SUCCESS IN THEIR ACADEMIC AND ATHLETIC CAREERS AND IN ALL OF THEIR FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, on Saturday, March 8, 2003, the “Lady Stallions” defeated Columbia High School 52 to 50 to win their third consecutive Class AA championship game. They are the first girls basketball team since Byrnes High School in 1962 to win three consecutive state titles; and

Whereas, the “Lady Stallions” had an amazing season with twenty-eight wins and only one loss in their championship season. Lee Central’s overall record is eighty-six wins and two losses in the three years that they have been competing; and

Whereas, in the championship game, both teams played evenly up to the half with Columbia High School leading 22 to 17. Lee Central took control in the fourth quarter with a stingy defense and dominated the quarter outscoring Columbia High School 16 to 6. The “Lady Stallions” were able to win the game through a team effort by spreading the ball around with three players in double digits; and

Whereas, the Lee Central High School Girls Basketball team was ably trained and led by Coach Dorothy Fortune who has lead the “Lady Stallions” to championship wins in each of the team’s three seasons. She is assisted by Tiffany McDuffie; and

Whereas, the Lee Central High School Girls Basketball Championship Team is comprised of: Shiquita McCullough, Renata Price, Casandra Johnson, Ashley Ruth, Tiffani Cooper, Shaquandra Charles, Shyrle Benjamin, Rashida Williams, Sierra Toney, Brittany Johnson, Faye Wells, Demetress Adams, April Drakeford, Jophnetta Saunders, and Christina Williams; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are proud of the spirit and accomplishments of the Lee Central High School “Lady Stallions” Girls Basketball team and take this opportunity to congratulate and commend them for their championship performance. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, congratulate the Lee Central High School “Lady Stallions” Girls Basketball team on winning the Class AA State Championship for the third consecutive season, commend them for the hard work, competitive spirit, and teamwork it took to become a championship team, and wish them every success in their academic and athletic careers and in all of their future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Lee Central High School “Lady Stallions” Girls Basketball team.
