Instructions and Information for upgrading your desktop computer to Windows 10What is being done?Because your PC currently runs Windows 7, your desktop computer needs to be upgraded to the Microsoft operating system called Windows 10. The process changes your version of Windows only, it does not change or affect your personal data.How do I upgrade?Because the upgrade process can take up to 2 hours on most computers, we recommend that you choose a convenient evening to start the upgrade before you leave for the day. The steps to upgrade are as follows: 30 minutes before you leave for the day, please restart your computerAfter the reboot, login to your computer, and wait for your desktop to finish loading (this usually takes a few minutes)Once you see an icon on your desktop that looks like this:Windows 10 UpgradeDouble-click on the icon and your upgrade will begin!If the icon does not appear within 5 minutes, please call us at 2-4357The next morning you should expect the following:A background picture with a prompt to press “Control-Alt-Delete”After doing so, you should login as normal with your HarvardKey credentialsFor your very first login to Windows 10, it can take up to 10 minutesYou will also see a window pop up, with a black background, that will close automatically after reconfiguring your personal settingsHow do I get help?I.T. will be monitoring daily for any users who run the upgrade and one of our technicians will follow up with you the following morning.
