Introduction CHAPTER 1
Thank you for choosing NEATO® as your Label Enabler™. We hope that you enjoy our product and that the information provided in this manual will make your labeling and packaging creations as easy as possible.
MediaFACE™ is a program designed to place images and text on pre-designed templates. You can then print the labels you’ve designed on NEATO® approved paper stock.

Installation CHAPTER 2
This chapter will guide you through the installation process and troubleshoot any difficulties that may occur.
Autorun
The following steps will explain how to install the MediaFACE™ software by using the Autorun feature.
NOTE: Not all systems will have the Autorun feature. If you do not see the MediaFACE Welcome Screen after inserting the CD-ROM into your CD-ROM Drive, please skip this section and go directly to Using Add / Remove programs.
1. Before installing MediaFACE™ on your system, please close all other applications that you may have running. Next, insert the MediaFACE™ CD into your CD-ROM Drive. Once the CD is inserted into the CD-ROM Drive, the MediaFACE Welcome Screen should appear.
2. At the Welcome Screen, click on Next and you'll go to the License Agreement screen. Upon agreement, you’ll go to the Late Breaking Information screen. Click on Next and you can view the ReadMe file, which will contain any information not contained within the manual (you can also print this out later for future reference). Once you have read the contents of the ReadMe file on your screen, click on Next and you'll be at the Select Destination Directory.
3. In the Select Destination Directory, it is recommended that you install MediaFACE™ in the default directory (C:\Program Files\MediaFACE), click Next and you'll be ready to install the program. Finally, click on Next and the installation will begin. Once the installation is complete, click on Finish.
4. NOTE: You may or may not have to restart your computer after installation, the program will prompt you if needed.
Using Add / Remove programs
Follow the steps below to install MediaFACE™ by using Add / Remove Programs.
1. Before installing MediaFACE™ on your system, please close all other applications that you may have running. Next, insert the MediaFACE™ CD into your CD-ROM Drive. Once the CD is inserted into the CD-ROM Drive, click on Start, then select Settings and click on Control Panel.
2. In the Control Panel window, double-click on Add/Remove programs. Once this window is opened, click on Install, then Next. Now Windows will search for the MediaFACE™ setup file. If this was done correctly, you should see the following: D:\Setup.exe. NOTE: Your CD ROM Drive letter may be something other than D:, however, for reasons of continuity D: shall indicate the CD ROM Drive throughout this manual.
3. Next, click on the Finish and the MediaFACE Welcome Screen will appear. Once you're at the Welcome Screen, click on Next and you'll go to the License Agreement screen. Upon agreement, you’ll go to the Late Breaking Information screen. Click on Next and you can view the ReadMe file, which will contain any information not contained within the manual (you can also print this out later for future reference). Once you have read the contents of the ReadMe file on your screen, click on Next and you'll be at the Select Destination Directory.
4. In the Select Destination Directory, it is recommended that you install the MediaFACE™ in the default directory (C:\Program Files\MediaFACE), click Next and you'll be ready to install the program. Finally, click on Next and the installation will begin. Once the installation is complete, click on Finish.
NOTE: You may or may not have to restart your computer after installation, the program will prompt you if needed.
View / Printing ReadMe File
Once the program is installed, it is recommended that you print out the ReadMe file. To do so, please follow the steps listed below:
1. Make sure you have the MediaFACE™ CD-ROM in your computer's CD-ROM drive.
2. Double-click on "My Computer", then double-click on the icon that reads D:\MediaFACE.
3. Double-click on the file ReadMe. This should open up in Notepad.
4. Next, click on File, then Print.
Installation Troubleshooting
I’ve placed the CD in the CD-ROM Drive, but the Autorun does not work.
• Refer to the section titled Using Add / Remove programs.
I cannot find the Setup file on the CD-ROM.
• Make sure the CD-ROM is in the Drive.
• Verify the CD-ROM Drive is in working order (Insert another CD into the Drive).
• Make sure the MediaFACE™ CD is clean.
The Installation ended abruptly.
• Close all applications and startup items found in your taskbar.
• Verify the CD-ROM Drive is in working order (Insert another disc into the Drive).
• Make sure the MediaFACE™ CD is clean.
How do I uninstall MediaFACE™?
If it becomes necessary to uninstall MediaFACE™, please do the following:
1. Click on Start, go to Settings and click on Control Panel.
2. Double-click on Add/Remove Programs.
3. Select MediaFACE and click on Add/Remove.
4. In the Select Uninstall Method window, select Automatic and then click on Next.
5. At the Perform Uninstall window, click on Finish and the uninstallation process will begin.
6. Click on OK once the uninstallation is complete.
Starting the Application CHAPTER 3
To open MediaFACE™
Click on Start, then Programs. Next select MediaFACE Applications and click on MediaFACE.
Startup troubleshooting
I cannot find MediaFACE™ in the Start Menu.
• You can also start the application by doing the following:
1. Click on Start, then click on Run.
2. Click on browse, where it reads "Look In", click on the arrow pointing down and scroll till you see
My Computer.
3. Double-click on the “My Computer” icon.
4. Double-click on C:, then double-click on Program Files, then double-click on MediaFACE.
5. Next locate and double-click on the file named CDFACE32.
Note: The file CDFACE32 is the executable for MediaFACE™.
• Uninstall, then reinstall the program.
The program will not open.
• Check the task bar. There are some cases in which the program will be minimized upon opening.
• Close all other applications, run ScanDisk (Start menu > Programs > Accessories > System Tools), then re-install the program.
What template should I use?
• Please refer to the ReadMe file or the MediaFACE™ Instructions (page 30) for a complete list of templates and template descriptions.
How do I remove/move the Palette Bar?
• Move – Left click on the top of the Palette Bar (blue edge), then drag to desired location.
• Remove – Select View, then click on Palette Bar.
Familiarize yourself with the Work Area CHAPTER 4
Now that MediaFACE™ is open, you should see the following:
• The MediaFACE™ logo in the center of the screen.
• The Menu Bar - This is at the top of the screen (File, View, Help).
• The Toolbar - This is located directly underneath the Menu Bar.
• Palette Bar - This is located on the left side of the screen.
• Status Bar - This is located at the bottom of the screen.
Please use the Reference chart included at the end of this manual as a visual reference while following this chapter.
NOTE: Some items will not be accessible until you have selected a template. For tutorial purposes, please click on File then New. A Select Template dialogue box will appear. Select any template and click on OK.
Throughout this manual, there is a reference to Select or Click, Double-Click and Right-Click.
• Select or Click - When Select or Click is mentioned, this is referring to positioning the cursor over a specific area and then left clicking.
• Double-Click - When Double-Click is mentioned, this is referring to positioning the cursor over a specific area and then left clicking TWICE.
• Right-Click - When Right-Click is mentioned, this is referring to positioning the cursor over a specific area and then right clicking.
Menu Bar
You will see the following items on the Menu Bar.
File
You will see the following when you click on File.
• New - Allows you to select and open a new template.
• Open - Allows you to open a previously created and saved MediaFACE™ document.
• Close - Allows you to close the MediaFACE™ document you're currently working in.
• Save - Allows you to save the work you're currently doing in a default location.
• Save As - Allows you to save the work with a specific name and location.
• Print - This allows you to print the document currently open.
• Printer Setup - Allows you to alter your printer(s) settings as needed within the program.
• Print Calibration - Allows you to calibrate your printer to NEATO® approved paper stock.
• Recent Files - Allows you to open previously saved files. This will show the last 4 files you have worked on.
• Exit – Allows you to exit MediaFACE™ and return to your Desktop.
Edit
You will see the following when you click on Edit.
• Undo - Allows you to cancel the last command made.
• Redo - Allows you to do over again your undo.
• Cut - Removes selected information (images/text) from the document and copies it to the clipboard.
• Copy - Copies selected information (images/text) from the document (without removing it) and sends it to the clipboard.
• Select all Fields- Allows you to select all the fields on the label.
• Paste - Places information copied to the clipboard on another area you’ve selected on the document.
NOTE: You can only copy and paste images within the program.
• Delete - Removes the information you’ve selected from the document.
Field
You will see the following when you click on Field.
• Add Text to … Add text to an area you’ve selected on the document.
• Add Picture to … Add picture to an area you’ve selected on the document.
• New Shape Field - Add a shape (Rectangle, Rounded Rectangle, Circle) to an area you’ve selected on the document.
• Align to Label (Left, Center, Right) - Align text / shapes either to the left, center or right of the label you’ve selected.
• Align to Field (Left, Center Horizontal, Right, Top, Center Vertical, Bottom) – Aligns selected fields either to the Left, Center Horizontal, Right, Top, Center Vertical, Bottom.
• Align to Axis (Left, Center Horizontal, Right, Top, Center Vertical, Bottom) - Aligns selected fields either to the Left, Center Horizontal, Right, Top, Center Vertical, Bottom of the Axis.
• Align Text (Left, Center, Right) - Align text field either to the left, center or right of the field.
• Movement (Move Forward, Move Back, Bring to Front, Send to Back) - Move images/text to the foreground/background in relation to one another.
• Rotation - Rotate (text only) the field you’ve selected either clockwise or counter clockwise in 10 º increments.
• Snap to Fit – Resizes text box to its original created size.
• Label/Field Selection - Select another area on the document or select an individual field on a document.
• Properties - View and alter the properties of the area you’ve selected on the document.
Page
You will see the following when you click on Page.
Page Properties - You can do the following in Page Properties.
• General - Select units (inches, millimeters, points) and change the background color of the label.
NOTE: If you change the background color of the label, it will not print that selected color.
• Layout - Select the page size you wish to work in. It is NOT recommended that you alter the existing page layout.
NOTE: NEATO® approved paper stock will come in 3 sizes. (US Letter / A4 / Video Sleeve).
• US Letter (8.5”x11”) is the standard throughout North/Central/South America.
• A4 (210mm x 297mm) is the standard throughout Europe/Africa/Asia.
• Video Sleeve is a custom 8.5"x12" paper size.
Grid Settings - You can do the following in Page Properties.
• Spacing – Allows you to set the grid spacing in mm, inches or custom.
• Display Grid – Allows you to toggle the grid display on and off.
View
You will see the following when you click on View.
• Zoom in/out - Increases/decreases your viewing area in 20% increments.
• Fit Height/Width - Allows you to view the templates width or height.
• Toolbar/Status Bar/Palette Bar/Alignment Axis/Grid - Allows you to turn on/off the specific item selected.
• Move Axis – Allows you to move the location of the Axis by using the keyboard.
Window
You will see the following when you click on Window.
• Cascade - Allows you to cascade files (if you have more than one file open).
• Tile - Allows you to tile files (if you have more than one file open).
• Arrange Icons - Arranges minimized files (if you have more than one file opened and minimized).
• Title 1,2,3,4 - Opens selected title (if you have more than one title open).
Help
You will see the following if you click on Help.
• Help Topics - Online help for MediaFACE™.
• About MediaFACE - Information about NEATO® and MediaFACE™ (NEATO® contact numbers, version and build of MediaFACE™).
Tool Bar
The following Icons will be on the Toolbar. (Please refer to the reference chart at the end of the manual.)
NOTE: Explanations of each of these are in the previous Menu Bar section of this manual.
New, Open, Save, Print, Cut, Copy, Paste, Undo, Move Forward, Move Back, Rotate Counter Clockwise, Rotate Clockwise, Align Text Left, Align Text Center, Align Text Right, Toggle Grid, Zoom In, Zoom Out, Program Information, Context Help.
Palette Bar
The Palette bar provides you with short cuts to the most used functions of MediaFACE™. Below is a listing of the functions.
• Add Text - This button will resemble the letter T.
• Add an Image - This button will resemble a cactus with a sun rising behind it.
• Add a Line - This button will resemble a line at a 45° angle.
• Add an Open Rectangle - This will resemble a rectangle with a light gray center.
• Add an Open Rounded Rectangle - This will resemble a rounded rectangle with a light gray center.
• Add an Open Circle - This will resemble a circle with a light gray center.
• Add a Filled Rectangle - This will resemble a rectangle with a dark gray center.
• Add a Filled Rounded Rectangle - This will resemble a rounded rectangle with a dark gray center.
• Add a Filled Circle - This will resemble a circle with a dark gray center.
• Color Palette - This is the area with the 36 colored squares. These are the predefined border/fill colors available in MediaFACE™.
• Custom Color Palette - This is the area with the 6 empty squares. These can be defined by the user.
• Border/Fill color - This will resemble two squares atop one another. The top square represents the selected border color. The bottom square represents the selected fill color.
• Switch Colors - This will resemble a double ended arrow. This feature allows you to switch the border and the fill color.
• Pen Size - This will allow you to change the pen line sizes.
Status Bar
The Status bar has additional information on all the commands on the toolbar (lower left corner). It will also give you the location of your mouse pointer in the unit of measurement you have selected (lower right corner).
Getting the most out of your Viewable Area
To get the most out of MediaFACE™, maximize your work area. You can do so by double-clicking on the Title bar. This will be the blue bar at the top of the screen. It should read MediaFACE.
Creating a Label CHAPTER 5
Now that you have an understanding of the work area in MediaFACE™, it's time to learn how to create a label. The creation of a label can be divided into six procedures: Selecting a template, importing a picture, creating text , selection, alignment, and duplicating one label to the next (copying and pasting).
NOTE: The following steps will apply to all the NEATO® templates in MediaFACE™.
Selecting the template
NOTE: If you just finished Chapter 4 “Familiarize yourself with the Work Area,” you may already have a template open. If so, please select File and then Close.
First select a template for the type of label or insert you wish to design. The following steps will describe how to do so.
1. Click on File, then New.
2. A "Select Template" window will appear.
3. Scroll through the list of templates and click on the one you wish to work in.
4. NOTE: There is a complete list of template names and descriptions in the ReadMe file and on page 30 of this manual.
5. Click on OK and the template will open.
Viewing options
MediaFACE™ has the ability to alter the viewing area of the template. This will allow you to tailor your work area to your own preferences. For example, you may want to zoom in to more accurately place text/images or you may also want to view the entire template as you are working.
You can alter your view of the template by doing any of the following:
1. Maximizing the template - You can do so by double-clicking on the Title bar. This will be the blue bar at the top of the template window.
2. Click on View (in the Menu Bar) - Now you can view the template’s height or width. You can also zoom in or out in increments of 20%.
NOTE: The template window should read Title 1; this will change when you save the file, and then it will read as the name you saved the file as.
Importing a picture
Now that your work area and template are set up to your preferences, you may want to import a background image. You can import images provided on the MediaFACE™ CD-ROM, images that you have acquired from another source, or images that you have created using a scanner or a digital camera. The following steps outline how to import each of these types of images.
Importing MediaFACE™ Images
MediaFACE™ provides 68 images on the CD, located in the Images folder. These images are in two resolutions: 150 Dots per inch (dpi) / 72 Dots per inch (dpi). Images at 150dpi will produce a higher quality printout, but they will require more time to print and more memory to process. Images at 72dpi will produce a lower quality printout; however, this will speed up the printing process and require less memory.
Previewing Images
An index of all the images is provided in the NEATO folder under Program Files. To view this image index file, please do the following:
1. Click on Start Menu, then Programs.
2. Select MediaFACE Applications, then Index of Images.
NOTE: This index image file will open up the application your computer has assigned to view bitmap images.
You can import an image three different ways. It can be done by using the Menu Bar, the Palette Bar and also by Right-clicking on the area of the template you want to work in.
1. Use one of the following methods to import an image:
• Using the Menu Bar: Click on Field, then click on Add Picture to Label 1. (Note: the text listed in italics will change depending on what type of template field you are importing into.)
• Using the Palette Bar: Click on the icon that resembles a cactus with a sun rising behind it.
• By Right-Clicking: Right Click on the label you want to work on, and select Add Picture to Label 1. (Note: the text listed in italics will change depending on what type of template field you are importing into.)
2. An Open window dialogue box will appear.
3. Now you should see two folders (Image 150 dpi / Image 72 dpi), double-click on Image 150 dpi. NOTE: If you experience memory errors or delayed printing, please use Image 72 dpi folder.
4. You can click on any file you wish, then select Open.
NOTE: If you do not see any file names, please do the following.
1. At the bottom of the Open Window dialogue box, it will read File of Type, click on the arrow to the right of it.
2. Next, scroll down until you see JPG or JPEG files.
5. You will now see a Picture Field Properties window. Select OK.
6. The picture is placed on the label.
Importing Other Images (Not on the MediaFACE™ CD-ROM)
You are not limited to just the images we provide on the CD. You can purchase image collections from your local computer store or even download images from the Internet. Just remember, there are only a certain number of image formats MediaFACE™ can recognize… i.e. image.bmp, image.jpg.
Here is a list of the image file formats that are supported by MediaFACE™.
NOTE: The asterisk before the file format stands for a wildcard. A wildcard represents any file name i.e. image.bmp can be referred to as *.bmp

Even though there are a variety of file formats to choose from, it is recommended to use either bitmap (.bmp) and JPEG (.jpg) files when working in MediaFACE™.
You can import an image three different ways. It can be done by using the Menu Bar, the Palette Bar and also by Right-clicking on the area of the template you want to work in.
1. Use one of the following methods to import an image:
• Using the Menu Bar: Click on Field, then click on Add Picture to Label 1. (Note: the text listed in italics will change depending on what type of template field you are importing into.)
• Using the Palette Bar: Click on the icon that resembles a cactus with a sun rising behind it.
• By Right-Clicking: Right Click on the label you want to work on, and select Add Picture to Label 1. (Note: the text listed in italics will change depending on what type of template field you are importing into.)
2. An Open window dialogue box will appear.
3. Where it reads "Look In", click on the arrow to the right.
4. Scroll and click on My Computer.
5. Locate the folder that contains your images.
6. At the bottom of the Open Window dialogue box, it will read File of Type, click on the arrow to the right of it.
7. Next, scroll until you see the format of the file you wish to open. You can also select All Files. This will show every file in the folder that is selected.
NOTE: With All Files selected, you'll see every file. This will include files that aren't images. If you attempt to open a non-image/non supported image, you will receive a Picture Error.
8. You can click on the appropriate file, then select Open.
9. You will now see a Picture Field Properties window. Select OK.
10. The picture is placed on the label.
Importing Scanned Images
You can also use images that you have scanned or images from a digital camera.
There are a few steps which must be taken when using a scanner or digital camera. They are:
NOTE: Please refer to your scanning documentation for detailed instructions on the three following procedures. (Each scanner has its own proprietary software, therefore, NEATO® cannot offer detailed support.)
• Sizing the scanned object - If an object is scanned at a size smaller or larger than the label area, it will be pixilated upon importing into the template. To achieve optimum quality, make sure that your scan is at least 150 dpi and no more than 600 dpi.
• Cropping the "Dead Space" - If you do a full scan (by default), this will scan not only the object, but the entire scanning area. When you import the scan, MediaFACE™ will place the scanned image, plus the "dead space" into the label, thereby altering the placement of the image. To avoid this, most scanners are equipped with a selection option. This will allow you to scan only a specific area, and so will crop out the unused space.
• Saving the scanned image - Once the scan is complete, you must save it to the Hard Drive. You cannot drag from the scanning program to MediaFACE™. Also, you must save the scan as an acceptable file format. It is recommended that you save the file as a bitmap (.bmp).
You can import a scanned image three different ways. It can be done by using the Menu Bar, the Palette Bar and also by Right-clicking on the area of the template you want to work in.
1. Use one of the following methods to import an image:
• Using the Menu Bar: Click on Field, then click on Add Picture to Label 1. (Note: the text listed in italics will change depending on what type of template field you are importing into.)

4. Scroll and click on My Computer.
5. Locate the folder that contains your scanned images.
6. At the bottom of the Open Window dialogue box, it will read File of Type, click on the arrow to the right of it.
7. Next, scroll until you see the format of the file you wish to open. You can also select All Files. This will show every file in the folder that is selected.
NOTE: With All Files selected, you'll see every file. This will include files that aren't images. If you attempt to open a non-image/non supported image, you will receive a Picture Error.
8. You can click on the appropriate file, then select Open.
9. You will now see a Picture Field Properties window. Select OK.
10. The picture is placed on the label.
Picture Field Properties
MediaFACE™ offers the ability to alter Image Positioning and Saving methods. You can select either of these in the Picture Field Properties dialogue box. To access this, double-click on the image.
NOTE: If you're unsure as to whether the correct image was selected, you can hit the F8 key. This will cycle through all the fields on a label. Once the correct field has been selected, double-click on it.
There are two tabs in the Picture Field Properties dialogue box. They are General and Options. The General Tab will contain information about the image (source and image size). The Options Tab will contain information about Image Positioning and Saving.
General
Image Information
• Source - This will give you the link location of the imported image.
• Width - This will give you the image width in pixels.
• Height - This will give you the image height in pixels.
• Bits per pixel – This will tell you how many bits per pixel the image has.

Options
Positioning
• None (keeping the original image size) - This will place the image on the label at its original size (dpi). You can move the image to a desired location by placing the mouse pointer on image, then hold the left mouse button and drag.
• Size to exactly fill Label (Default) - This will increase or decrease the image size to maximum printable area of the label. (This will lock the image.)
• Center in label (keep size) - This will place the image on the center of the label at its original size (dpi).
NOTE: Locked images cannot be moved/resized.
Saving the image along with document.
There are two methods of saving an image within a MediaFACE™ document (ntp).
NOTE: Once a MediaFACE™ document is saved, it will be given an ntp extension. Example: file.ntp
• Embed - This will save the entire image with the MediaFACE™ document. This will increase the file size; however, it is recommended if you're transferring files between two computers.
• Link (Default) - This will create a path (link) to the original image location (Hard Drive, CD-ROM, Floppy Disc). This method will reduce the size of the document, but if the path (link) is broken, MediaFACE™ will require you to browse for the original image or open the document without the image at all.
Resizing an Image
MediaFACE™ allows you to proportionally resize your images and shapes.
To do so, please follow the steps below:
1. Import a picture into the Template (see Importing a Picture).
2. Hold down the Shift key.
Next, Place the mouse pointer on any corner (double sided mouse will appear) hold mouse button and drag to resize.
Working with more than one image
You can place more than one image on one label. To do so, place your background image first (use Size to Fill the Label option for positioning). Then add any additional images on top of your background image (use the None option for positioning). Now you can move or resize the additional image according to your needs.
Moving an image to Foreground / Background
You can switch the placement of each additional image by doing the following.
1. To select the image you can click on the image or use the F8 key.
2. Once the correct image is selected, click on Field from the menu bar.
3. The Move Forward option will send the image one increment forward.
4. The Move Back option will send the image one increment backward.
5. The Bring to Front option will send the image to the front of all the other fields.
6. The Send to Back option will send the image to the back of all the other fields.
Create shapes / Full color background
MediaFACE™ offers the ability to create shapes in the program. The shapes are rectangles, rounded rectangles and circles. They can either have a transparent or filled background.
Open Rectangle, Open Rounded Rectangle, and Opened Circle
From Field Menu
1. Click on the label where you want to place the shape.
2. Select Field, then New shape field.
3. Now you have the option of choosing the shape you want (choose an open shape).
4. Movement / Re-sizing - Place the mouse pointer on shape (4 sided pointer), hold the mouse button, and drag to the desired location. Place the mouse pointer on any corner (double sided mouse), hold the mouse button and drag to resize (press the Shift Key to resize proportionally).
From Palette Bar
1. Click on the label where you want to place the shape.
2. Click on any open shape button, then left click on desired border color on the color palette.
3. Movement / Re-sizing - Place the mouse pointer on shape (4 sided pointer), hold the mouse button, and drag to the desired location. Place the mouse pointer on any corner (double sided mouse), hold the mouse button and drag to resize (press the Shift Key to resize proportionally).
Filled Rectangle, Filled Rounded Rectangle, Filled Circle
From Field Menu
1. Click on the label where you want to place the shape.
2. Select Field, then New shape field.
3. Now you have the option of choosing the shape you want (choose a filled shape).
4. Movement / Re-sizing - Place the mouse pointer on shape (4 sided pointer), hold the mouse button, and drag to the desired location. Place the mouse pointer on any corner (double sided mouse), hold the mouse button and drag to resize (press the Shift Key to resize proportionally).

1. Click on the label where you want to place the shape.
2. Click on any filled shape button.
3. Movement / Re-sizing - Place the mouse pointer on shape (4 sided pointer), hold the mouse button, and drag to the desired location. Place the mouse pointer on any corner (double sided mouse), hold the mouse button and drag to resize (press the Shift Key to resize proportionally).
4. Right-click on any color on the color palette. This will be the fill color of the shape. Left click on any color on the color palette. This will be the border color.
Full color Background
You can print a solid background on a label by following these steps.
1. Place a filled shape on label.
2. Re-size to cover the entire label.
3. Right-click on any color on the color palette. This will be the fill color of the shape. Left click on any color on the color palette. This will be the border color.
Custom Color
MediaFACE™ offers the ability to create custom colors for shapes and text. These custom colors have to be defined by the user. To define a custom color please do the following.
NOTE: Your six additional custom colors will be saved along with the document.
1. Double-click on one of the six empty squares on the Palette bar. (These six squares will be located below the 36 predefined colors).
2. A Windows color dialog box will appear, then select one of the sixteen custom color boxes.
Note: Even though you can create up to sixteen custom colors, you can only use up to six on the Palette Bar.
3. Click on Define Custom Colors.
4. Choose the appropriate color that you want from the color spectrum.
5. Click and drag the color illuminant slider bar (located on the far right side of the Color Dialog Box) until you get to the desired intensity.
6. Click on Add to Custom Color.
7. Click on OK.
To add another custom color, please double-click on another empty square and repeat steps 2 through 7.
Create Text
MediaFACE™ offers the ability to place text directly on the label. There are three methods for doing this: The Field Menu, the Palette Bar, and by Right Clicking. You can also place your text as flat, angled or curved. There are also special options, such as adding a date, using a number sequence, inserting the contents of a folder and importing track information from an audio CD.
Flat Text - Typing a flat line of text.
Field Menu
1. Click on Field and select Add Text to Label 1. (Note: the text listed in italics will change depending on what type of template field you are importing into.)
2. A Text Properties dialogue box will open.
3. The General Tab will be selected as a default. You will then type your line of text where the word (text) is highlighted.
4. Select OK after typing your text and it will be placed on the label.
From Palette Bar
1. Click the button that resembles the letter T.
2. A Text Properties dialogue box will open.
3. The General Tab will be selected as a default. You will then type your line of text where the word (text) is highlighted.
4. Select OK after typing your text and it will be placed on the label.
Right Click on the Label
1. Right click on label.
2. Select Add Text to Label 1. (Note: the text listed in italics will change depending on what type of template field you are importing into.)
3. Type your line of text.
4. Select OK after typing your text and it will be placed on the label.
Changing the Text Appearance
Now that your text is on the screen, you can change its appearance by changing the font, style, size and color. You can do so by following these steps.
1. Double-click on the text field.
2. Click on the Format tab in the Picture Field Properties dialogue box.
3. Click the Change Font button. This will bring up the Font dialogue box.
4. Now you can alter your text as needed. The sample window will display your changes.
5. Select OK (twice) after making your changes and the text will be placed on the label.
Moving a Line of Text
Once the text is placed, you can move it to any location on the label.
1. Select the text field by either clicking on it or using the F8 key.
2. Position the mouse pointer on the text field. Hold the left mouse button and drag the text field to the desired location.
Angling Text
You can also angle a text field in MediaFACE™. You can do so by following these steps.
1. Select the text field by either clicking on it or using the F8 key.
2. Double-click on the selected text field. This will open the Text Properties dialogue box.
3. Select Style tab.
4. Click on Angled.
NOTE: In order to angle a line of text, you must be using a True Type font. You can tell if the font is True Type by the double TT in front of the font name. If you try to angle a non-TrueType font you will get an error message.
5. Select degree of angle i.e.. 90°, 180°, …
6. Select OK and the angled text field will be placed on the label.
NOTE: You can also use the clockwise/counter clockwise rotation arrows in the Toolbar to rotate text in 10° increments (once on the label).
Curved Text
You can also curve a text field in MediaFACE™. You can do so by following these steps.
1. Select the text field by either clicking on it or using the F8 key.
2. Double-click on the selected text field. This will open the Text Properties dialogue box.
3. Select Style tab.
4. Click on Curved.
NOTE: In order to curve a line of text, you must be using a True Type font. You can tell if the font is True Type by the double TT in front of the font name. If you try to curve a non-TrueType font you will get an error message.
5. Select OK and the curved text field will be placed on the label.
Moving a Curved line of text
There are two methods to move a curved text field: Real-time / Manual.
• Real-time movement: Allows you to drag the curved line of text to any location on the selected label.
• Manual: The ability to place a curved line of text by entering specific numbers into the two following locations:
Radius to Text Center
This will alter the distance of the text field from the center of the label.
1. Double-click on the selected text field. This will open the Text Properties dialogue box.
2. Select Style folder.
3. Type in a number into the Radius to Text Center Box.
NOTE: The default number is 1.00 (1 inch from the center of the label) or 25.00 (25mm from the center of the label). To increase the distance from the center of the label, type in a higher number (2.10). To decrease the distance from the center of the label, type in a lower number (.80).
4. Select OK.
Angle
The angle option signifies the starting point of the curve.
1. Double-click on the selected text field. This will open the Text Properties dialogue box.
2. Select Style folder.
3. Change number in the Angle box to alter the placement of the curved text field. i.e. 90° (12:00 position) 180° (9:00 position) 270° (6:00 position) 360° (3:00 position).
NOTE: You can enter any number except 0 into the Angle box. Typing in a 0 will crash the program.
4. Select OK.
Inverted
The inverted option will reverse text placement. This is used when placing a curved line of text on the bottom of the label.
1. Double-click on the selected text field. This will open the Text Properties dialogue box.
2. Select Style folder.
3. Check the inverted option and change the Angle to 270°.
4. Select OK.
Multiple Selection
MediaFACE™ has the ability to select multiple fields. This is useful when you want to align more than one field to a specific location on the label. There are two methods to select multiple fields:
Using the Control Key (Ctrl).
1. Hold down the Control Key (Ctrl).
2. Next, Click on any field with the mouse pointer (while holding down the Control Key).
3. Proceed to click on any additional fields you wish to have in your selection.
4. Now you can reposition, copy or delete the selected fields on the label.
NOTE: If you wish to select all the fields on a label press the Control Key and the letter 'a' at the same time (Ctrl+a).
Framing (if you hold down the left mouse button and drag diagonally this will create a box. This box is referred to as a frame).
1. Position mouse pointer on the label.
2. Hold down the left mouse button and create a frame around the fields you wish to select.
3. Now you can reposition, copy or delete the selected fields on the label.
Deselecting a Field
You can deselect a field or group of fields by simply clicking on the gray area of the template.
Alignment
MediaFACE™ gives you the ability to align text, shapes and images in a variety of options.
There are four different methods of alignment. They are as follows:
• Align to Label – You can align one or more fields to the label (Left, Right and Center).
• Align to Field – You can align one or more fields to a specific field.
• Align to Axis – You can align one or more fields to a horizontal or vertical Axis.
• Align Text – You can align one or more lines of text within their respective text boxes (Left, Right and Center).
Align to Label
1. Select one or more fields on a label (see Multiple Selection).
2. Select Field in the Menu Bar, then select Align to Label.
3. Choose between Align Left, Align Center, Align Right.
Align to Field
1. Select one or more fields on a label (see Multiple Selection).
2. Select Field in the Menu Bar, then select Align to Field.
3. Choose between Align Left, Center Horizontal, Right, Top, Center Vertical, Bottom.
NOTE:
Align Left will align all selected fields to the field that is furthest to the left.
Align Center Horizontal will align all selected fields to the center point of the selected fields.
Align Right will align all selected fields to the field that is furthest to the right.
The same will apply for Align Top, Align Center Vertical, Align Bottom.
Align to Axis
MediaFACE™ gives you the ability to define a horizontal and vertical Axis. These axes are displayed as thin lines running horizontally and vertically across the document. The Axes can be used as guide lines for alignment. You can move an Axis to the desired position within the document by doing one of the following.
• Using the Axis Grip:
The endpoint of an Axis (Horizontal / Vertical) is displayed as a red arrow on the ruler. You can reposition the Axis (Horizontal / Vertical) by clicking on the red arrow and dragging it to the desired location.
• Using the Keyboard:
You can also move the Axis (Horizontal / Vertical) by holding the Control Key (Ctrl) and pressing the directional arrows.
1. Reposition the Horizontal/Vertical Axis to the desired location.
2. Select one or more fields on a label (See Multiple Selection).
3. Select Field in the Menu Bar, then select Align to Axis.
4. Choose between Align Left, Center Horizontal, Right, Top, Center Vertical, Bottom.
NOTE:
• Align Left will align all selected fields to the left of the vertical Axis.
• Align Center Horizontal will align all selected fields to the center of the vertical Axis.
• Align Right will align all selected fields to the right of the vertical Axis.
The same will apply for Align Top, Align Center Vertical, Align Bottom.
Align Text
MediaFACE™ gives you the ability to align a multi line text field to either Left justify, Center justify or Right justify within its respective text box.
There are two ways to align one or more text fields:
From the Menu Bar
1. Select one or more text fields (see Multiple Selection).
2. Click on Field from the Menu Bar.
3. Select Align Text.
4. Choose either Align Text Left, Align Text Center, Align Text Right.
From the Tool Bar
1. Select one or more text fields (See Multiple Selection).
2. Click on either Align Text Left, Align Text Center, Align Text Right.
Snap to Grid
MediaFACE™ gives you the ability to snap a field or a group of fields to the grid. The grid distance can be defined in inches, millimeters or custom. To setup the grid distance, please do the following.
1. Select page from the Menu Bar.
2. Choose Grid Settings.
3. A Grid Settings Dialog Box will appear, select the spacing you desire.
NOTE: The Custom Setting can only be done in millimeters.
4. Once the spacing has been selected, Check the box next to Display Grid.
5. Click on OK.
Once you have your grid displayed on the screen, you can snap your field(s) using two different methods: the Menu Bar or by Right Clicking.
From the Menu Bar
1. Select the field(s) you wish to snap to the grid (see Multiple Selections).
2. Select Field from the Menu Bar.
3. Select Snap to Grid from the Field menu.
Right Clicking
1. Select the field(s) you wish to snap to the grid (see Multiple Selections).
2. Right Click on the selected field(s).
3. Select Snap to Grid.
Special Text Features
MediaFACE™ can handle special text options such as inserting a date, a number sequence, the contents of a specific folder and audio track information.
Inserting a Date
1. Select add text to Label (either in menu bar/palette bar/or right-clicking).
2. Select the Special Tab, then select Date.
3. Next, choose the correct layout using the drop down arrow (for today’s date).
4. Select OK.
5. For another date, deselect Use Today's Date, select DATE, type in date you desire, then select OK (twice).
Inserting a Number Sequence
To automatically number a limited number of CDs using MediaFACE™, follow the steps below:
1. Select add text to Label (either in field/palette bar/or right-clicking).
2. Select the Special Tab, then select Number Sequence.
3. There will be two sections you must enter information into. They are Sequence Name and Start Number.
• Sequence Name – This will identify the number sequence. You can name this whatever you like as long as it is the same on the other labels you want the sequence on
• Start Number – This will be the starting number of the sequence. For example, if you want the number sequence to begin at 1000, type in the number 1000. The Start Number must also remain the same on all the labels you want the sequence to appear on.
4. Type in sequence name and start number, then select OK (twice).
5. Do the same to all the labels you want the sequence to appear on.
NOTE: The sequence name and start number must be identical on all labels.
6. The number of the sequence will depend on number of pages (NOT COPIES) printed. For example, if you want a number sequence to run from 1 to 10 on CD labels, you must set your print range from 1 to 5 pages because there are 2 labels per page.
NOTE: If you print 5 copies, the number sequence will be identical on all the pages printed.
7. You can do this in the printer dialogue box by following these steps.
1. Click on File, then Print.
2. At the bottom of the Print dialogue box, you’ll see Print Range.
3. Click on pages, then enter 1 in from and 5 in to, this specifies that you want to print from page 1 to page 5.
NOTE: This will change depending on what template you are working on and how long your specific number sequence is.
Inserting the Contents of a Folder
Let’s say you’ve backed up a few specific files onto a CD. Rather than retyping all the files onto the label, MediaFACE™ will read the contents of any folder you select and list all the file names and extensions within. The steps below will show you how to do so.
1. Select add text to Label (either in field/palette bar/or right-clicking).
2. Select Special Tab, then select Folder List.
3. A Choose Folder window will appear.
4. Select the drive where the desired folder is located. For example, if the folder you want is on the C: drive, select it.
5. Once you choose the correct drive letter, you’ll get a listing of all the folders on that drive.
6. Choose the correct folder, then select OK (twice).
NOTE: Some reformatting may be required in most cases. To do so, double-click on the text field and make your changes in the Text Field Properties dialogue box.
Inserting Audio Track Information
If you have created an audio CD, MediaFACE™ will read all the information on the CD (number of audio tracks, the tracks themselves and times of the audio tracks) and place it on the label.
1. Insert Audio CD into CD-ROM drive.
2. Select add text to Label (either in field/palette bar/or right-clicking).
3. Select Special Tab, then Select Audio CD Tracks.
4. Next, select the General Tab and replace "Track" with song title.
NOTE: The database required to generate song titles is far too extensive to incorporate into MediaFACE™. MediaFACE™ will insert the word TRACK in place of the actual song title.
5. Once song titles have been inserted, select OK.
Duplication of Information from one Label to Another
Now that you have created your first label, you can copy the information to other label(s) on the template. Rather than recreating the entire label, you can copy and paste the information. The following steps will show you how.
1. Select the label you’ve created by clicking on the label (or keep tabbing F7 until the label you’ve created is selected).
2. Select Edit from the Menu Bar, then choose Select All Fields.
3. Next, select Edit from the Menu Bar, then choose Copy.
4. Select the next empty label by clicking on label (or keep tabbing F7 until the empty label is selected).
5. Select Edit from the Menu Bar, then select Paste.
NOTE: Upon successful completion of the copy and paste, you may have to realign the fields.
Creating a Label Troubleshooting
I'm having difficulty selecting different fields.
• Use the F8 Key to cycle through each field.
My Palette bar / Tool Bar / Status Bar / Alignment Axis / Grid is no longer on screen.
• You can turn them back on by using the view menu.
I cannot deselect a particular field.
• You can deselect any field by clicking on the gray area of the template.
I’m trying to open an image and I receive an “Unexpected File Format” error.
• You are trying to open an image by selecting File then Open. This will only be used when you are trying to open a previously created MediaFACE™ document (ntp File). Please refer to the manual (page 11) for the correct method to import an image.
I’m trying to open an image and I receive a “Picture Error (Lead-9) Image File (file name) is an invalid image file”.
• You are trying to open a file that isn’t an image i.e.. *.txt, *.exe, …
• One of the DLL files associated with image handling may have been corruptly installed. Please manually remove these files from the Windows/System folder, then re-install the program.

I’m trying to open an image and I receive a “Picture Error (LEAD-16) Image format (file name) is not supported due to legal restrictions."
• You are attempting to import an image that is not supported by MediaFACE™. The most common example would be the GIF format, which MediaFACE™ is not licensed to use.
Your program accepts TIFF images, yet when I import my TIFF image it appears incorrectly on the screen (wrong color).
• When using the TIFF format, you must save it as a TIFF uncompressed. This is the only TIFF format that MediaFACE™ supports.
Your program accepts Windows metafiles (WMF) and WordPerfect Graphic files, but when I import my WMF/WPG file it is the incorrect color.
• When using WMF/WPG files, it is recommended that the file is black and white. Any color WMF/WPG file will import as a different color.
If you have to use the WMF/WPG file, you must convert it to a BMP before importing it into MediaFACE™.
I scanned an image, but it won’t import into the template.
• You must first save the scanned image as either a BMP or a JPG file. Then import it into the program.
I scanned an image, then saved it as a BMP/JPG. Upon importing the image, it will not appear correctly on the template.
• When you scan an image, you must take into account that the scanner will scan the entire 8.5 by 11 area, not just the image. Once the scan is complete, you must remove all the unwanted “dead” space. Once this is done, the image will fit correctly in the template. For more detailed instructions, please refer to your scanner's documentation.
The redraw is extremely slow.
• If you have multiple curved lines of text on a template, the redraw rate will be slow. This is due to the complex calculations involved when creating the curved line of text.
• If you have a large number of fields on the template, the redraw may slow down depending on the system speed.
• If the image file is huge, the redraw will be slow depending on the system speed.
How do I insert a ©,®,™ and the Performance sign (P within a circle)?
• You can insert the © and the ® by doing the following:
Create the symbol in MS Word (© = ctrl+alt+c) (® = ctrl+alt+r). Then copy and paste into MediaFACE™.
You can create the ™ symbol by typing the TM as a smaller font. Then manually place it where you want it to appear.
You can create the Performance sign (circle P) by creating an open circle, resize it to a circular shape. Drag it to the desired location, then place a P in the center of it.
How do I rotate a line of text?
• First you must have the text field selected. You can then rotate the line by either using the Clockwise/ Counter Clockwise arrows (10 ( increments) or double click on the text field, select the Style folder, click on Angle and manually enter the angle i.e.. 90(, 270(, …
How do I rotate an image once it is placed on a template?
• You cannot rotate images in MediaFACE™. If you wish to rotate an image, you must do so in a 3rd party program (MS Paint, CorelDraw…)
I cannot select a specific field on my template.
• You can select a field by double clicking on it.
• You can also use the F8 key to scroll through each field on a template.
How can I copy the information from the first label over to the next?
• Select your label, then choose Edit, then Select All Fields. Next select Edit, then Copy. Next Click on the empty label, select Edit, then Paste.
I tried to place an image with a transparent background, but it appears white on the screen/printout.
• MediaFACE™ doesn’t support transparencies. If you would like an image with a transparent background, you must combine the transparent image with the background image in a 3rd party program. Save the two images as one, then import it into the program.
I placed an image into the template, now it’s distorted.
• By default, MediaFACE™ will either enlarge/reduce an image to fill the area it is placed in. If the image is smaller, you will notice some degradation of the image once it’s imported. For best results, the image should be in the area of 4.5” (width & height) when being used in conjunction with NEATO® CD labels.
When I place my company logo on the screen, it fills the entire label.
• Once the logo is placed, double click on it. Next select Options, then none for positioning. Now you can manually resize the image and place it wherever you desire.
I placed the image on the template, but I cannot proportionally resize it.
• Hold down the Shift Key while resizing your image.
I placed a shape (rectangle, rounded rectangle or circle), but I cannot color it.
• Verify that you have placed a filled shape and not a open shape.
• Once a filled shape is on the template, left click on any color on the color palette for the border. Right click on any color on the color palette for the fill.

What is a MediaFACE™ ntp file?
The MediaFACE™ ntp file is a saved document. This will consist of the template plus any Text / Images, custom color settings, grid settings and axis settings that were added.
Where to save your work
Save your work like any other document. Just remember the location in which you're saving. It's always wise to save all your documents in a separate folder from its application and also to separate individual types of documents. As always Backup, Backup and Backup.
Saving Troubleshooting
I attempted to save my MediaFACE™ document and I received a message stating that I don’t have security privileges.
• This message will appear only if you’re trying to save your information to the CD-ROM Drive.
Where should I save my MediaFACE™ Documents?
• As a rule, you should save your MediaFACE™ files in the “My Documents” folder; however, you may save them wherever you please. Just remember where you are saving them and always back your files up.
I opened a previously saved MediaFACE™ document (ntp File), but I received a LEAD-10/Cannot find image error.
• By default, MediaFACE™ links all images when saving. This will reduce the file size, but the image must be in the same location or else the link will be broken. If the link is broken, you must manually search for the image or open the document without the image at all. To prevent this from happening again, select embed under Saving Options in Picture Field Properties.
Creating an Insert or Sleeve CHAPTER 7
As well as labels for various types of media, NEATO®'s MediaFACE™ software also allows you to create a variety of different types of inserts and sleeves. Two examples of these are the tray-liner and booklet inserts for a CD jewel case. You work with an insert or sleeve template in exactly the same way you work with a template for a label. The following instructions use a CD tray-liner and booklet as examples, but the same procedures will work for any MediaFACE™ template.
Creating a Tray-Liner

A tray-liner consists of three independent areas: The main body (tray) and the two spines (left spine/right spine).

Placing Text / Images into the spines
Before you can place text or images into the left or right spine of a tray-liner, you need to select the spine you will be working in. You can select a spine by clicking on it. Then refer back to Chapter 5 for instructions on how to add text or images.
Placing Text
It is not recommended that you go higher than a ten-point font in a tray-liner spine.

Text on the left spine should be at an angle of 90°.
Text on the Right spine should be at an angle of 270°.
NOTE: By default the Text will be placed flat (0°).
Placing Images into the spines
It is not recommended that you place an image (except for a solid fill) in the spines; however it is possible to do so. It requires some design and print knowledge.
Duplication of Information from one Tray to another
1. Select the Tray / Spine you’ve created by clicking on the Tray / Spine (or keep tabbing F7 until the Tray / Spine you’ve created is selected).
2. Select Edit from the menu bar, then choose Select All Fields. Return to the Edit menu and select Copy.
3. Select the empty Tray / Spine by clicking on the Tray / Spine (or keep tabbing F7 until the empty Tray / Spine is selected).
4. Select Edit from the menu bar, then select Paste.
NOTE: This has to be done three times (Left Spine / Tray / Right Spine).
Tray-Liner Troubleshooting
I cannot place my line of text into the left or right spine.
• You’ve probably placed your text in the tray. You must select the left or right spine, then add your Text to it.
I cannot copy all fields from one Tray-Liner to another.
• You must copy the information from each individual area (Left Spine / Tray / Right Spine).

How do I know on which side of the template to place my images / text?
• When working on side A of the booklet the square on the right of the template is the front CD cover, and the square on the left is back cover of the book itself. When working on side B of the booklet, the left square is inside left of the booklet and the right is the inside right of the booklet.

Printing CHAPTER 9
Now that your label is complete, it's time to print it. Before you print, there are a few points to consider.
They are: Setting up the printer, calibrating the printer, selecting the print quality and loading the paper.
Printer Setup
Select file, then select Printer Setup. By doing this, you can now verify that the printout will go to the correct printer and the correct paper style is selected - usually US 8.5 x 11” or A4 210x297mm. (NOTE: The USVCRVS Video Sleeve template is an exception, and requires a Printer Setup of Legal Size 8.5 x 14"/Landscape orientation).
Calibration
Now that the printer setup is complete, it's time to calibrate your printer. There are so many printers and systems on the market that it is practically impossible to get a printout to line up with the labels the first time. Calibrating the printer will let you manually alter the printout by entering horizontal and vertical offsets. These offsets will move the printout to the desired location. The steps below explain the calibration procedure.
Test Print
1. Insert a blank piece of paper.
2. Open the File that you want to print.
3. Select File, then Printer Calibrate. A Print Calibration dialogue box will appear.
4. Select Test Print; the program will print the outline of the template.
5. Hold the test print page up to an actual sheet of NEATO® paper stock, align the two sheets exactly, with the two pages back-lit so you can see the label stock behind the test print.
6. NOTE: It's best to use a ruler when determining the movement of the printout. If you simply guess at the distance, you could waste a lot of time and paper trying to calibrate the printer.
Understanding Horizontal / Vertical offsets
To move the printout, enter a number into the horizontal and vertical offsets. Horizontal movement will be to the left and to the right. Vertical movement will be from the top to the bottom.
NOTE: All adjustments will depend on the paper you’re using. A4 paper will use millimeters for adjustments, US paper will use inches for adjustments.
Calibration Numbers
US Paper Stock
You must convert the unit of measurement (inches) into a decimal. We’ve provided a convenient list of common measurements for you.
1 inch = 1.0 in ½ inch = .500 in ¼ inch = .250 in 1/8 inch = .125 in 1/16 inch = .062 in
1/32 inch = .031 in
These numbers will be applied to both the horizontal and vertical settings.
Horizontal movement --- use a negative number to move left (example: -.250 in), to move right leave number as is (example: .250 in).
Vertical movement --- use a negative number to move down (example: -.250 in), to move up leave number as is (example: .250 in).
A4 Paper Stock
If you are using A4 paper stock you must use millimeters to calibrate your printer.
Horizontal movement --- use a negative number to move left (example: –2 mm), to move right leave the number as is (example: 2 mm).
Vertical movement --- use a negative number to move down (example: –2 mm), to move up leave the number as is (example: 2 mm).
Setting Horizontal / Vertical offsets
Now that you've figured out how much you need to move the printout both horizontally and vertically, it's time to enter their corresponding numbers into the Horizontal and Vertical offsets.
1. Enter the correct numbers into the Horizontal and Vertical Offsets.
2. Perform another Test Print on a blank piece of paper.
3. Verify the test print with a sheet of NEATO® paper stock by aligning the two sheets.
4. Make further adjustments to the Horizontal and Vertical Offsets if needed.
Selecting Print Quality
Now that your printer is properly aligned to print out the template, it's time to take into account which type of paper stock you're printing on. NEATO® provides two types of paper stock. They are Photo Quality Glossy Finish and Matte Finish.
Photo Quality Glossy Finish Label
When printing on our glossy paper stock, use a photo paper setting and set the print output as high as possible. To do so, select Print, then select Properties.
NOTE: There are so many different printers on the market, that it is impossible to list all the different settings for all the printers. It is recommended to view your printer documentation or consult with the printer manufacturer on how to alter these settings.
Matte Finish Label
When printing on our matte finish paper stock, use a plain paper setting and set the print output to normal quality. To do so, select Print, then select Properties.
NOTE: There are so many different printers on the market, that it is impossible to list all the different settings for all the printers. It is recommended to view your printer documentation or consult with the printer manufacturer on how to alter these settings.
Loading Paper
Once you've adjusted your print quality, it's time to load the paper stock. NEATO® conveniently prints arrows on their paper stock. These arrows display which way the paper is to be fed into the printer.
Print
You've finally done it. Your label has been designed; your printer is calibrated and adjusted to your specifications. Select File, then Print. In the Print dialogue box, specify how many pages/copies you wish to print. Once that is done, select OK and the printing will begin.
Printing a NEATO video sleeve
Put the NEATO video sleeve into the printer tray or feed the label stock manually with the arrows pointing into the printer. Choose Print from the File menu. Check that Print Setup is set to Legal Size paper/Landscape Orientation. Specify in the Print dialog box how you want the document to print, then click OK to start printing.
Slippage (VCR SLEEVE templates only)
Compensate for slippage - Because NEATO® Video Sleeves are thicker than standard paper stock you may experience slippage during printing. To correct this, we have provided a slippage scale printed directly on the paper stock. If you encounter slippage, do the following:
1. Open the template named Slippage.ntt (File > New > Choose Slippage.ntt in “Select Template” window).
2. Next, print this template on a VCR Sleeve. (File > Print). NOTE: This will not waste the VCR Sleeve.
3. Once the print is complete, close the Slippage.ntt template and open the template named USVCRVS.ntt (File > New > Choose USVCRVS.ntt in “Select Template” window).
4. Next, select File > Printer Calibrate.
5. Look at the slippage scale on the VCR Sleeve. The slippage printout will have placed a marker line somewhere along the scale. If this line is not exactly centered on the scale, note how many millimeters you would need to offset the printout to line it up exactly with the center of the scale.
6. In the Printer Calibrate dialog box, enter this figure into the Horizontal Offset, followed by the letters mm. NOTE: Since the Slippage scale is in millimeters, you must enter mm after the number to signify millimeters. Example: If the slippage marker printout is on –2 on the scale, enter –2 mm into the Horizontal Offset.
Click on OK and resume your printing. Print a test label - Occasionally, even after you compensate for horizontal slippage, you may have minor misalignment vertically when you print out a template – for this reason it is a good idea to do a test print before you print onto the NEATO® stock. Print a test sleeve on regular 8.5” x 11” paper by clicking Test Print in the Printer Calibrate dialog box – again, make sure your Print Setup is set to Legal Size/Landscape. Hold the test print up against the video sleeve stock, with the left upper corners of both sheets aligned with each other. If the printout on the regular paper does not exactly line up with the video sleeve stock, calibrate your printer to compensate. Repeat the test printout and calibration until you are satisfied with the alignment.

Printing Troubleshooting
My printout doesn't line up to the labels.
• Was the printer calibrated correctly (see calibration)?
• Are the labels being fed into the printer correctly?
• Are you using our templates and paper?
• Are you using the correct template? If you use an A4 template on US paper or vice versa, the printout will not line up.
I just performed a test print, but none of my images/text printed out.
• A test print will only print the outline of the template. This print is to be used as a reference when calibrating your printer to the NEATO® paper stock.
I attempt to print and I get an “Insufficient Memory to Print, Close all Other Applications and Try Again” message.
• Reboot your system, then close all other applications that are running and try to print again.
• Check system specifications (Memory, Hard Drive space available).
• Lower your color palette i.e.. 32-bit to 24-bit to 16-bit to 256 colors till you get a printout.
My text looks fine on the screen, but when I print the first/last character is getting cut off.
• Extend the text field out on both ends (flat text).
• Hit the space bar 2-3 times at the beginning and of the line of text (angled/curved).
When I print, I only get a solid black circle or “black donut.”
• Certain printers do not work well with the QuickPrint method implemented in MediaFACE™. To disable the QuickPrint feature, please do the following:
1. Locate the file named CDFACE32.INI (95/98/NT) in the Windows folder.
2. Open CDFACE32.INI (double click on it)and add the following to the Settings section:
-- QuickPrint=Off --
3. If the line QuickPrint=On is already in the settings section of the CDFACE32.INI file, change On to Off.
I start to print, the progress meter appears, but no print out occurs.
• Change the QuickPrint File to read QuickPrint=Off.
I just finished printing and the color of my images/text isn’t correct.
• Change the QuickPrint to either On or Off (depends on original setting).
It takes a long time to print out my MediaFACE™ document.
• Printing speed will vary depending on the amount of RAM and system speed.
• Change the QuickPrint to ON (this may have adverse affects on print output).
• Lower your color palette i.e.. 32-bit to 24-bit to 16-bit to 256 colors until you get a quicker printout.
• Lower the image size (300 dpi to 150 dpi).
• Lower the printer resolution.
My lines of curved text are printing with a colored background.
• Verify that text is set to Transparent background, not colored.
• Change the QuickPrint File to read QuickPrint=Off.
I print and the bottom of my 2-up label is cut off.
• If you’re using our A4 paper stock and your printer is set to US Letter (8.5x11), the last 1/4 of the bottom label will not print. This can be changed in the print setup.
I attempt to print, but I keep getting the message “Insufficient Space to Spool the Document.”
• The message usually indicates that there isn’t enough free space on the hard drive to spool the print job. Do one of the following to alleviate this issue:
1. See if you can free up some additional hard drive space.
2. Reduce the image size (300 dpi to 150 dpi).
3. Reduce the print resolution.
4. Lower your color palette i.e.. 32-bit to 24-bit to 16-bit to 256 colors till you get a quicker printout.
My printout is in Black & White instead of color.
• Verify that the printer has color ink by performing a test in MS Paint or any other graphics program available.
• Change the QuickPrint to either On or Off (depends on original setting).

Tips on handling NEATO® paper stock
It is recommended that you keep your NEATO® paper stock in a dry place at room temperature. Excessive humidity or cold may cause the labels to peel.
Label applicator Troubleshooting
I labeled the wrong side of the CD.
• Once a CD has been labeled, the label cannot be removed. Please verify which side of the CD contains the information before labeling.
Before you label your CD:
• Before labeling any CD, verify that the surface is clean. Any impurities on the CD may prevent the label from adhering to the CD correctly.
After you have labeled your CD:
• Once a CD label has been applied, run your finger over the label in a circular fashion to ensure a secure seal and remove any air bubbles that may be present.
• Please keep labeled CDs out of the cold.

Troubleshooting CHAPTER 11
Before you call NEATO® Technical Support
There are several steps you can take before calling technical support. Performing these steps can solve many problems and often eliminate the need for telephone assistance.
• Reinstall MediaFACE™
Reinstalling MediaFACE™ can solve many operational problems. Before reinstalling MediaFACE™, please uninstall first.
Follow these steps to uninstall MediaFACE™.
1. Click on Start, go to Settings and the click on Control Panel.
2. Double-click on Add/Remove Programs.
3. Select MediaFACE Applications and click on Add/Remove.
4. In the Select Uninstall Method window, select Automatic and then click on Next.
5. At the Perform Uninstall window, click on Finish and the uninstallation process will begin.
6. Click on OK once the uninstallation is complete.
Next reinstall MediaFACE™; refer to page 5.
• Check for software upgrades
NEATO® is constantly improving MediaFACE™; therefore, the version that you currently have may not be the latest. To obtain an upgrade, visit our webpage at .
In most cases, once an upgrade is completed the problem will be solved.
• Check for Printer / Video Driver upgrade
Printer and Video graphic manufactures are constantly updating their products to conform with the latest advancements in technology; therefore, you may have to update your printer or video driver to correct the problem. To do so, please contact your Printer or Video Graphics manufacturer.
NOTE: Most printer/video graphic manufacturers will place driver updates on their websites free of charge.
• Check for Software conflicts
Disable all programs before you install MediaFACE™. By doing so, you will prevent any software conflicts that may occur. You do not have to permanently disable these programs, just during the installation procedure.
• Optimizing your Hard Disk
