TITLE: Respiration
Plants are , meaning they can make their own food. What are the 3 things a plant needs to do this?
1.
2.
3.
Animals (including humans) are , meaning they cannot make their own food. This food provides the animal with , but how?
Through respiration.
During respiration, cells break down simple food molecules such as glucose and release the energy they contain.
Just like photosynthesis, respiration is a two-stage process as well.
What about those single-celled organisms that live where there is no oxygen, such as in the deep ocean waters?
These organisms obtain their energy through fermentation, which is an energy releasing process that does not require oxygen.
Alcoholic Fermentation vs. Lactic-Acid Fermentation
Alcohol is one of the Lactic-acid builds up in the
products made when muscles of organisms when
these organisms break there is not enough oxygen
down sugar.
