Make sure you know the following from the novel, The Outsiders:

Be able to answer and explain the following:

The reader knowing that Johnny is carrying a switchblade is an example of what literary technique? 7. Be able to recognize universal theme messages in The Outsiders. 8. Why is Two Bit satisfied that Pony has not become hardened? 9. Why does Dally want Two-Bit's switch? 10. How does Ponyboy prepare for the rumble? 11. Johnny gives both Dally and Ponyboy some advice in his letter. What does he want each of them to do? 12. Why can't Dally accept Johnny's death? What does this cause him to do? 13. Why did Randy decide not to participate in the rumble?

Important details to know 1. Ponyboy can talk to Sodapop easily. He has trouble communicating with Darry. 2. Cherry, Marcia, Bob, Randy, Johnny, Two-Bit, and Ponyboy know each other because they all go to the same school. 3. The Socs are usually the group to start a fight rather than the Greasers. 4. Darry has sacrificed a lot to take care of his brothers; he even gave up a college scholarship so they could stay together. 5. Ponyboy was being attacked when Johnny stabbed Bob, so he didn't really see Johnny kill Bob. 6. After killing Bob, Ponyboy and Johnny go and hide in a church for two weeks. 7. Ponyboy and Johnny may have felt guilty about the church fire because their cigarettes may have caused it. 8. Randy tries to make peace with Ponyboy after Ponyboy saves the children from the fire, and he refuses to fight in the Soc-greaser rumble. 9. Dally truly cares for the other Greasers, especially Johnny. 10. After the rumble, Ponyboy falls ill. The judge even notices this at his court hearing. 11. Mr. and Mrs. Curtis, Ponyboy's parents, die in a car accident. 12. Johnny idolizes, or looks up to, Dally more than any other Greaser. 13. Johnny kills Bob because he feels he has to in order to save Ponyboy from being drowned. 14. When Ponyboy sees his brother Darry crying at the hospital, Ponyboy realizes how much Darry actually loves him.

Review your answers to the chapter questions you did for homework. Know the timeline of major events in the book.

Remember that you can use your book the day of the test. If you forget to bring it, you won't be able to borrow one! So, bring your book with you!! No exceptions!
