Course Description:

Psychology teaches you all you ever wanted to know about human behavior mental processes. AP Psychology is equivalent to a college-level introductory course in psychology and provides you with a solid introduction to the scientific study of human behavior, from sleep and dreams to mental disorders. Students who receive a passing grade on the AP examination can receive credit at nearly 2,900 universities and colleges worldwide. There is no prerequisite for the course and it is open to 11th and 12th graders.

Required Materials:

• 3-ring binder (with labeled tabs) (Psychology), (Key contributors & study guides) class work (# Assignments), for keeping printed notes & for written notes, (Lecture notes) in Cornell style, and reading notes (Reading notes)

• Notecards for making flashcards strongly suggest Barron’s or Princeton Review flashcards (cheaper on line)

Course Grading:

Grading is based on a point system reflecting your achievement.

Semester 1

▪ Unit Tests – 60% Lowest score will be dropped

▪ Unit Quizzes – 5% “Vocabulary” (you can retake to make up but must be done prior to next unit)

▪ Notebook (assignments & projects) – 35% Lowest score will be dropped but delayed.

Semester 2

▪ Social Norm project – 5%, Final 14 units – 10%, Notebook checks – 30%, Unit quizzes – 5%, Unit Tests – 40% drop lowest, Quizlet Final Prep mini tests – 10%

*Note… 1) Late notebook checks lose ALL extra credit options even if excused (You can arrange an early check prior to include extra credit) 2) You are only allow 1 missed N.B. check, upon 2nd miss I will project your “un-curved” test score. (You will have to remind me of this)

Test Corrections:

For each unit test you will be allowed to complete test corrections that can help you to recuperate up to ½ of your missed points.

• Test corrections may not cause your score to exceed 100%

• Corrections must be completed the day BEFORE the next test

• Corrections must be completed during intervention period or selected days after school

• Incomplete test correction protocols receive no credit (you must do all of your missed questions) or none will be counted. Also no partial or half credit.

• Make up tests are much harder and are randomly selected from Meyer’s test generator

TEST CORRECTION: The procedure for completing test correction protocols for each incorrect item chosen is as follows:

1. Re define the term or concept the question if referring to in your own words

2. Explain the correct answer with insight OR explain the “big” concept that the question wants you to know OR explain your mistake with insight… NOT Maslow is a Humanist or the answer is B … Do what is helpful to illustrate to yourself you understand it.
