“Clothes Make the Man” Interview Project

Your Name___________________________ Your Partner_____________________________

Your Character__________________________________

Wednesday: Introduce assignment, get started. HW: Do close reading of character. Prepare.

Thursday: Time in class to work.

Friday: Present interview in front of the class for a grade.

Assignment: You and your partner are going to prepare an interview role-play focusing on one of the characters from “Clothes Make the Man”. One of you will be the interviewer, one of you will be the character. However, you are both responsible for preparing an in-depth, quality interview. Make a news broadcast on the events in “Clothes Make the Man” as a human interest story. Interview your character about why he/she was so easily fooled. Does he/she blame Strapinski or him/herself?

Requirements: The interview should last 3-4 minutes. You may use notes, but you should not be reading. Focus on the character’s narrative: who he/she is, motivations, relation to Strapinski, impressions of Strapinski, analysis of why he/she thought (or didn’t think) he was a Count, thoughts now, etc.

Preparation: You should do a close reading of your character in the text. You will need to expand on the character, based on inferences that you can make from the text, but you need to stay “in character.” Practice the interview questions and responses. Work on timing.
