FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR CHARACTERISTICS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Flight Instructor Characteristics and Responsibilities
Major Characteristics and Qualifications of a Professional CFI:
L.A.A.S.S.D.I.
1. Language – Professional CFI’s do not use obscene language and profanities. You must also think about your working when teaching, since most of the subjects you teach are unfamiliar to the student. Go through the wording of intended use in the air on a ground session prior to flight. You should also avoid abstractions at all times.
2. Acceptance – Accept you students as they are, with their faults and their problems. The student wants to fly, and you can teach them. You are both working towards the same goal. Accept and support your student in all aspects.
3. Appearance – Dress appropriately, be clean and behave. Your students expect that from you. A clean body and breath should be accompanied by common courtesy at all times.
4. Sincerity – The professional CFI should be honest and straightforward in every way. The student must see you as a competent, qualified teacher and an expert pilot. Care about your students progress. Display genuine interest.
5. Safety – your student will adapt your flying techniques and skills. Fly at all times, never break a rule, and you will foster a safe pilot.
6. Demeanor – Keep a fixed professional mood; be calm, thoughtful, and pleasant with a sense of humor. Don’t let your personal problems influence your professional image.
7. Improvement – A professional CFI is never too good, and always strives for self-improvement. “A good pilot is always learning.”
