Job Title: Homing Centre Deputy Manager

Responsible to: Homing Centre Manager

Department: Operations

Responsible for: Cat Care Assistants, Receptionists, Site Maintenance Assistant and Homing Centre Volunteers with Homing Centre Manager.

Main responsibilities of the role: To work with the Homing Centre Manager to manage the efficient running for the Homing centre in line with the charities main aims; homing, neutering and education and in compliance with all policies and procedures. To be responsible for the overall welfare of the cats in care, to ensure all administrative and maintenance procedures are completed to the required standards and to manage the activities of all staff and volunteers.

Qualifications/experience required/desired: People management, knowledge of animal welfare, working within budgets, customer care, working with the media, training & staff development and delivering presentations.

Main Duties:

1. To work with the Centre Manager, ensuring the required level of staff cover at all times, with the site staffed during the centre opening hours, and the centre opened to the public at the times agreed with the Operations department, and to provide effective cover in the absence of the Manager.

2. To work with the Centre Manager to ensure staff & centre practices adheres to the Homing Centre Manuals/Code of Conduct and all relevant Cats Protections policies and procedures.

3. To plan and direct the activities of the cat care staff in agreement with the Centre Manager.

4. To arrange and manage the delivery and collection of cats to and from Veterinary premises, using the company vehicles provided.

5. To undertake duties as agreed with the Centre Manager to manage and monitor the reporting of all accurate and up to date information including financial information to all departments in accordance with specific requirements and Cats Protection policies.

6. To ensure that “Paws” and all information held at the centre is managed in accordance with the Data Protection Act.

7. Working with the Homing Centre Manager, be responsible for ensuring that all relevant personnel within the Centre are legally entitled, are certified and are trained to a competent level on equipment within the centre including microchipping and Cats Protection’s vehicles.

8. Working with the Homing Centre Manager to actively promote the values and aims of Cats Protection to all staff and volunteers. Focusing on homing, neutering, responsible cat ownership and the importance of donations within the Homing centre you will lead and monitor all staff and volunteers in meeting with Cats Protection’s objectives and plans.

9. Working with the Homing Centre Manager, you will ensure the standard of care given to the cats within the centre, that welfare and veterinary procedures are adhered to and be responsible for the administration of all veterinary legal requirements surrounding cat care including the handling of drugs and disposal of waste.

10. To handle the homing and accepting of cats and kittens and ensure completion of the necessary forms and ensure minimum veterinary standards are carried out by a suitably qualified person. Oversee the correct practices and procedures are in place for carrying out home visits.

11. Working with the Homing Centre Manager to actively promote the values and aims of Cats Protection within the local community. You will work with the Cats Protection Media Office and other CP departments to promote and encourage a better understanding of homing, neutering and cat care to the public using all available resources. You will do this by giving talks to schools and community groups, liaising with the media on local and national cat related stories and working with others to highlight the work of Cats Protection.

12. To actively promote the importance of donations, fundraising and other income within the Homing centre and to the general public and to work with others to increase income.

13. Working with the Homing Centre Manager, Training Manager, HR Dept and L&D team, you will assist in the recruitment, induction and development of all staff at the centre. You will ensure that up to date and detailed task lists are available for all staff and volunteers, that all staff and volunteers fully understand the duties required of them and they are fully trained in all areas of their work and in CP policies and procedures.

14. To be responsible for the administration of all donations and cash receipts in line with current Cats Protection’s financial guidelines.

15. To undertake induction and continual training to keep skills and knowledge up to date as required by Cats Protection.

16. To maintain all aspects of health, safety and hygiene of the working and cats environment in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, and any other associated regulations currently in force. To take responsibility for ensuring that all cat areas and equipment are maintained to a high standard as directed by the Centre Manager, Development Manager, Field Veterinary Officer or Training Manager.

17. In common with all posts, ensure compliance with Cats Protection’s policies and procedures, statutory obligations and best practice, and to undertake such other duties as may be reasonably required by Homing Centre Manager. This job description may be subject to review in the light of the developing organisation and in consultation with the post holder.

CONDITIONS OF SERVICE

Salary

Salary will be £17,114.17 per annum. Salaries are reviewed annually on 1st June. There is no contractual entitlement to any increase in basic salary.

Hours of Work

The normal hours of work are 40 hours per week (including weekends). Because of the nature of the role, the post holder may be required to work additional hours to ensure the proper performance of the duties and this may mean that the post holder will work in excess of normal business hours.

Place of Work

This role is based at our Gildersome Homing Centre. During the course of your employment you may be required to travel to various locations in the U.K. on CP business. Travel and subsistence expenses will be reimbursed as detailed in the Employee Handbook.

Annual Leave

In addition to bank and public holidays the annual leave entitlement is 25 days annual leave (pro-rata for part time hours) rising by one day for each completed year of employment up to a maximum of five extra days. The holiday year runs from 1st January to 31st December.

Other Information

An appointment is made subject to a satisfactory medical questionnaire and references. Permanent positions are subject to a probationary period of three months.

Cats Protection has a restricted smoking policy. Smoking is only permitted in designated areas during lunch breaks and not in CP cars.
