W.W.II reduced the total population of all of Europe by more than 25% or 150 million, from 542 million in 1940 to 392 million in 1950. If the Jewish population in Europe alone had decreased by a similar 25%, or 2.5 million jews, there would have been only 12.8 million Jews worldwide in 1946.
