Once You Get There:

Welcome to our home! We hope you have a wonderful stay at our house!

When you arrive if there’s anything at all of concern please call Jon Rosen at (301)980-8436

ADDRESS: 5904 Heather Lane, Cambridge 21613

Once You Get There:

4:00 is the check-in time. Several folks have to make the property ready for you. The property has to be empty for them so it’s nice for you; please do not come early.

The Key. The lock box is on the left side of the porch near the side door. You will need to clear the keypad, enter the code to open the lockbox and to close it. Return the key to the lockbox, as there is a house key in the kitchen, and the lockbox is your insurance in the event you lock yourself out.

Parking. There is room for cars in the space next to the house and on the driveway. Do not park or drive on the grass next to the house but feel free to park on the grass down the driveway closer to the street. As long as the ground is dry.

Air Conditioning/ Heating. There are two thermostats – 1st floor hall and 3rd floor. Set them to your liking when you come in and leave them on “auto”. They both need to be set. When you get to the house, if it’s really hot it will take time for the third floor to cool down. Close the door to the 3rd floor.

MANAGEMENT: Leave the door to the third floor closed in summer to retain the cool air. DO NOT set thermostats more than three degrees cooler than ambient air at any time or the units will freeze. You can always set the thermostat lower once it cools down.

Remember to put them back when you leave (60 in the winter, 80 in the summer)

Bring: Beach Towels. One full set of linens are provided. A spare set of linens is provided but we charge an additional $75 cleaning charge if they are used.

Buy: At a minimum, coffee filters (though there are always some there), toilet tissue, paper towels, soap and trash bags. There are occasionally products at the house but they’re not stocked for use. A country store is just down the street and grocery stores in town (and a Wall Mart) are 10 minutes away.

Once You’re There:

To-Do: New this year is our own Google Map which you can access from your phone or laptop and search for our favorites in these categories: Restaurants, Shopping, Recreation, Tourism, Day Trips and Healthcare. It’s a great list and has more than you need to accommodate your needs. Click here or copy the link into your browser:

Boats: Make sure paddles and boats are secured at all times. Guests unfamiliar with tide will leave accessories by the water and they will be lost.

Sand: Please make sure sand is off your towels and person before leaving the shore area. Sand in the pool and on towels/linens damages the pool filters and our washing machine.

Floors. Our guests are all kind enough to leave shoes at the door thanks – the best way to avoid tracking sand in the house. The floors look great for you as a result.

Hot Water. We use a wonderful tank-less hot water system - it never runs out, but takes longer to arrive at the faucet.

We’re on Septic – be thoughtful. Please never toss anything into a toilet other than toilet paper. Dental floss, sanitary napkins, condoms, paper towels etc. will absolutely damage the system. Please us the trash cans provided – and please tell your other guests once you get there.

Trash. Trash is picked up Mondays at 6am, so please place trash in bins both Sunday night and when you leave. IMPORTANT – DON’T MOVE BINS AND CARS CANNOT BLOCK TRUCK ACCESS TO TRASH CANS. We appreciate your help. They won’t pick up anything not in the box & bagged.

Satellite TV. Make sure the TV is set to Satellite via the “input” control. Use the Satellite remote to change channels. All TVs require two remotes – one for TV & one for the Satellite. Pay Per View use is prohibited without prior email permission. Some cell service providers get spotty reception at the house (try the third floor).

Internet Access/Phone: We have satellite Internet service at the house and the WiFi password is under the cable modem in the back left bedroom. If there is a problem - please call. Do not unplug or change settings. The bandwidth is more than sufficient for web browsing and email, etc. but not the best for streaming media. We do not have land-line phone service thanks.

Fireplace. Do not use off-season. In-season use the artificial logs, and make sure the flue is open and then closed the following day. Please dispose of ashes in the woods and close the flue when you leave.

Dishwasher. Make sure there is no food in the sink drain (run the disposal) or on the bottom screen in the dishwasher. If these are clogged, a sensor won’t allow it to drain. This is the #1 reason for guest dishwasher issues.

Pool. The pool should be clean and treated when you get there so please do not add chlorine or chemicals or touch the heater of valves. You are only responsible for filling the pool, skimming and emptying the skimmers your stay. CALL US RIGHT AWAY IF THERE IS DISCOLERATION OR ANY OTHER ISSUE. Do not prop gates open. Gates are for your safety and the safety of others.

Grills -  You have an outdoor grill by the pool area.  It runs on propane and uses the standard 20 gallon grill tank.   We check the tank by weight when after each rental, but it's difficult to tell some times.

IF YOUR TANK IS EMPTY.   Fortunately there is a refill (tank swap) location at the end of the street at The Lewis Store - simply swap the tank for a full one (only if it's empty) and we will reimburse you, just fax the receipt to us at 240-238-2996.  PLEASE DO NOT USE the JennAir grill in the kitchen - it's too hard to clean.  Thank you

Outdoor Towels and plates: Please don’t take anything outside other than colored beach towels. Make sure sand is gone from the towels when you bring them back. Only plastic plates and cups should be taken outside; please remember to bring them in clean and free of sand. We have had to repair the washer/dryer and pool filters due to sand. We pass those charges on if it occurs.

Entertainment: Check out the restaurant/recreation list on our website: (Click here)

Smoking and Pets. Smoking in the house is strictly forbidden. Pets without prior approval are also forbidden. In the event smoking occurs, or a pet is found on the property without prior written permission it will constitute a breach of the agreement and be subject to breach provisions of the lease.

When You Leave:

10:30 really is the checkout time. Sorry but there’s no way to clean and prepare properly without having guests out on time. The cleaning crew comes at 10:30 and won’t clean if there are guests present. Unless your lease says otherwise in writing, there is no late checkout.

Light Cleaning (as defined in your agreement and below) is the responsibility of you and your guests. Light cleaning is the responsibility of our guests. The maids will charge extra to clean dishes and run wash loads of towels. Do not leave food on the counters, floors or stove (inside and out). Thank you. No food in the fridge, sink or counters. No trash on the floors or surfaces.

Trash. Trash should be in bags and not on the floor, etc. All excess trash is to be placed in trash bags and inside the outdoor cans – leave bins in their corrals - thanks.

Doors and windows. Make sure all doors and windows are shut and locked. Check carefully please. To lock the windows turn the lock handles to the left when the window is shut tightly. Check by pulling on the handles and doors.

Keys: Please return the key to the lock box and leave the extra house key hanging in the kitchen.

Air Conditioning/Heating. In warm weather make sure both thermostats are turned to “Auto” (FAN) and 80 degrees. In the winter make sure both thermostats are turned to “Auto” (FAN) and 60 degrees. Set to “Manual” and not “Program. DO NOT turn them off. Thank you.

Fireplace. Make sure the flue is closed if you used it. Take any excess ash out to the woods.

Kitchen. No dishes in the sink or Dishwasher. Please clean stem-wear by hand.

Do not leave stains on the counters, stove or in the oven, etc.

Bikes and Boats. Important – please make sure these are located and locked as you found them and all accessories (paddles and vests) returned to their place. Boats must be secured. Anything left on the sand or ground will be lost and a charge will incur.

Linens. Please strip sheets and pillowcases and place them at the foot of each bed. Please do not leave towels unwashed. If you must, they should be in the washing machine and the load running. If there is an additional load to do we unfortunately have to charge you for additional maid’s time.

Just In Case:

Hazards. We urge you to be mindful of the water, the pool, the woods dock and the equipment. Vacations are a magical time for kids and adults alike but many of these things are unfamiliar; especially to kids. Watch kids, swim with buddies and never allow anyone on a vessel without a life preserver. It’s a good idea to have children wear a preserver and shoes on the dock. Our natural setting brings an opportunity to see wildlife including snakes. Be wary and treat them all as dangerous even though they may not be.

Sea Nettles. Watch for these mild jellyfish that come as the summer progresses. Their sting is not too bad but everyone reacts differently. This web site has helpful information. We guarantee they won’t be in the pool. … ;-)

Mosquitoes etc.. The Eastern Shore has skeeters - residents consider these the true, state bird…. Any repellant with DEET usually works. Afternoons are worse and open areas are better. You’re in the woods - watch for ticks and check yourselves and children.

No Hot Water. It’s likely the switch in the 3rd floor. On the wall facing the front of the house over the stairs is a toggle switch for the hot water heater. Make sure it’s on before you call. DO NOT CHANGE TEMPERATIRE ON THE UNIT

Clogged toilets. Clogged toilets are a guest responsibility. There are two plungers in the house.

Emergency Numbers. Call Jon Rosen at (301)980-8436. There is no graceful way to handle lockouts so keep the key in the lockbox. Remember we're 3 hours behind on Pacific Time.  If it definitely can't wait and you've left me a voice mail already, call our caretaker Michelle at (443) 521-9269. Delmarva power is 1-800-898-8045. When the power doesn’t work the well and septic won’t work either.

Money Matters:

Deposit. The house is inspected typically the day you leave. You’re responsible for loss and damage and we are always fair and accommodating. We also check for pay-per-view (which are prohibited and will result in a fee-plus-cost), which needs to be arranged before you arrive if you wish to use it. Deposits are settled within 45 days of your rental.

Thank you!!
