How to Set Up Email Accounts on Outlook 2003 for Hotmail

I want to do this! What's This?

On March 12, 2009, Microsoft enabled POP3 technology globally for Hotmail and Windows Live users. The POP3 protocol allows you to download your email and to send emails through an application on your computer, SmartPhone or other Internet-connected device. In order to set up your email account in Outlook[pic] 2003 for Hotmail, you will need to know your Hotmail account's username and password. You can also use the same account information and server settings to set up email accounts on other email clients.

Difficulty: Moderate

Instructions

1. Step 1

Open Outlook 2003.

2. Step 2

Click on "Tools" in the menu bar. Select "Email accounts[pic]."

3. Step 3

Select "Add a new E-mail Account," and click on "Next."

4. Step 4

Choose "POP3" as the server type. Click "Next."

5. Step 5

Enter your name and email address under "User Information." Enter your username and password. Repeat your email address as your username. The password should match the password you use to sign into Hotmail through your Web browser. Enter "pop3." for the "Incoming mail server (POP3)" and "smtp." as your "Outgoing mail server (SMTP)." Click on "More Settings."

6. Step 6

Click the "Outgoing Server" tab. Tick the check box next to "My outgoing server requires authentication." Choose "Use the same settings as my incoming mail server."

7. Step 7

Click the "Advanced" tab. Enter "995" for the "Incoming server" port. Check the box next to "This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)." Type "25" or "587" for the "Outgoing server" port. Again, check the box next to "This server requires an encryption connection (SSL)." Click "OK."

8. Step 8

Click "Next," then "Finish."
