Speed Limits

Professional truck drivers continuously display care and respect for the motoring public by utilizing Protective Driving Technique. They know that their physical condition, road/weather conditions, and equipment may impose limits. They use that knowledge to preserve their driving record and the reputation of them and the trucking industry at large. Driving within the speed limit is one of many ways professional drivers make the roads safe for the entire motoring public.

Often, speed limits are designed to warn amateur motorists of the potential hazards that may lie ahead, such as construction zones, curves, or entrance to an urban area. Professional truck drivers should be prepared for these situations and should decrease their speed as necessary. The following are just a few reasons to drive within the speed limits:

|  |  |

|1) |Driving within the speed limit helps protect you from potential crashes. The distance required to allow a truck to properly stop is directly related |

| |to its speed. The ability to stop or swerve out of the way could save a life. |

|2) |Driving the speed limit can reduce stress. The next time you're in heavy traffic try this: reduce your speed 3-5 mph below the speed limit. Other |

| |vehicles will cut in front of you; however, as this happens, the other vehicles increase your following distance for you. This makes driving less |

| |stressful on you and your equipment. |

|3) |You set a good example for other truck drivers to follow. As a professional truck driver, you are the ambassador for the trucking industry. What you |

| |do on the road will greatly impact the public's perception of trucking. Set an example for other truck drivers. Show them how to drive safe and |

| |professionally. |
