CHEM LAB 1 REPORT

Lab Title:

Statement of the Guiding Question:

What patterns and trends exist when data is graphed for the density of a metal?

Materials:

Procedure:

Procedures can be found on the Discovering Density , Publication No. 7169 at .

Results:

By appearance the metal tested was a color.The sample volume was determined by subtracting the volume from the final volume. The of each sample was determined by using the formula D= m/v.

The results are presented in Data Table (Figure 1) and in a graph (Figure 2) following in this section.

Since, at a mass of zero the volume of a sample would be the starting point on the graph was ( , .) As can be seen in the graph, when the mass increases so does the which follows a pattern that suggests a linear relationship between the sample’s and the sample’s . One/No point was out of place. The points are all/mostly along a best fit line suggesting that all the samples were made of the same .

Using the formula for determining slope (listed below) the density was determined to be g/cm3. Calculating the average density by adding the four sample densities then dividing by turned out to be g/cm3.

Equation 1: Formula for slope density:

m = (y2-y1) ÷ (x2-x1) or m = (y2-y1)

(x2-x1)

Equation 2: Formula for percent error

% error = | measured value - accepted value |
