Pressure on suppliers:

General Motors Corp and Chrysler on Wednesday launched programs to help cash-strapped parts suppliers, backed by up to $5 billion in U.S. government funds.

Suppliers deemed critical to GM's operations have been allocated $2.1 billion to be distributed through the automaker, with the government supplying $2 billion and GM putting in $100 million, the automaker said. Suppliers are required to pay 2 percent to secure a government guarantee of the receivables they are owed. For a higher payment of 3 percent, suppliers can opt for immediate payment from the fund

They’ve launched a special service for suppliers:

Nigeria

Overview

GM Nigeria was the first vehicle assembly plant in Nigeria. GM’s business operations in the region date back to 1927 when Lagos-based UAC of Nigeria Ltd. began marketing Vauxhall, Buick, and Chevrolet passenger cars. In 1965, the Vehicle Assembly Plant became Federated Motor Industries. It was granted official status as a progressive manufacturer of commercial vehicles in 1979. At that stage, vehicles were locally assembled from completely knocked down parts to complement the imported fully built units. In September 1991, GM Nigeria Ltd. was formed, with UACN PLC having 60 percent equity. General Motors has 30 percent equity, and the employees have 10 percent.
