Vaccinations

Puppy:

1st vaccine at 8 weeks old and second vaccine at 12 weeks old.

Or

1st Vaccine at 10 weeks old and second vaccine at 14 weeks old.

Puppies can then start going out 7 days after the second part of the vaccine.

Adult Dogs

Vaccines every year.

Vaccinated against:

Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus, and four strains of Leptospirosis virus.

We also recommend vaccination against kennel cough as this disease is highly contagious among dogs, and is easily spread where dogs congregate such as country walks and dog training classes.

Kittens:

1st Vaccine at 8 weeks of age and second vaccine 3 weeks from this.

Kittens can start going out 7 days after second vaccine, however we would recommend they were neutered before they start going out.

Adults Cats

Vaccines every year

Vaccinated against:

Feline Leukaemia virus, Feline rhinotracheitis herpesvirus, Feline calicivirosis and Feline panleucopenia virus.

Neutering

Dogs: Females can be spayed from 6 months and males can be castrated from 5 months of age. The risk of breast cancer is significantly reduced if your bitch is spayed before her first season and life threatening infections of the womb are prevented. This will also save the inconvenience of seasons, bleeding and unwanted visitors. Castration of dogs will prevent anti-social behaviour and aggression.

Speak to a veterinary nurse regarding timing of spay – in relation to the size of the breed and oestrus cycle.

Cats: Cats will need to be spayed or castrated from 4 months of age to prevent unwanted kittens. Neutering will also prevent anti-social behaviour and aggression. Wandering will reduce and therefore decrease the likelihood of road traffic accidents and fighting.

Both cats and dogs will only need to be in with us for a day to have the surgery and require 10 days of rest afterwards. They will go home with a buster collar to prevent them from interfering with the wound.
