The mission of the Inspire School of Arts and Sciences is to provide high levels of learning and support within a personalized environment that allows students to explore their interests and develop their talents.

Minutes

Present: Jann Reed, Ben Juliano, Jay Goldberg, Debbie Travers, Ron Pope, Eric Nilsson

1. Meeting called to order at 7:04 pm.

2. Consent Calendar (5 min.)

Ben Juliano motioned to approve spending on the following items. Debbie Travers seconded. Vote was 4-0 in favor.

$9,000 Textbooks

World History (30)

AP US History (30)

Economics (50)

$20,000 Wireless Microphones, Receivers,

and Transmitters

$6,750 Software for Recording/Audio class

(30 stations at $225 per station)

$6,670 10 Pottery Wheels

$10,000 10 computer stations for Video

Production

Eric will do further research on cost of roving computer lab to include

Possibility of purchasing 40 lap tops as well as two carts.

Eric will also get explanation for storage cabinet in Science lab.

3. Discussion/Action Items

1. Public Hearing/Discussion/Action. (45 min.)

3.1a. Discussion/Action: Approval of Math Intervention Position.

Eric presented the data related to Math achievement at Inspire. Overall there is a 21% proficiency rate on the 2011/2012 CST’s. Information was presented related to the cost of hiring a Math Intervention teacher and duties were discussed to include targeting where students need improvement and providing the support needed to improve Math achievement.

Jan Reed motioned to approve a Math Intervention position for current study hall monitor Carolyn Sale at Step 5 on the salary schedule with full benefits. Ben Juliano seconded the motion, and it was approved by a vote of 4-0.

Ben Juliano suggested use of the Kahn Academy as a resource and the board discussed the use of higher achieving students in Math to tutor students who need the help.

Meeting was adjourned at 8 pm.
