Marketing and Business Development Manager

Department: System Development Reports To: Chief Strategy Officer

Salary: TBA Status: Full-time/Exempt

SUMMARY: While reporting to the Chief Strategy Officer this position has responsibility and activities related to public information, media relations, government relations, communications, marketing, branding, sales and business development for Chatham Area Transit Authority.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

□ Determines and implements short and long-term strategies needed to support Authority’s goals and plans.

□ Provides direction in the development and implementation of policies and organizational goals.

□ Serves as lead official Authority spokesperson, and coordinates with Board members, Executive Director and staff regarding communications with media.

□ Advises and counsels the Executive Director on public affairs matters and other key issues regarding their potential impact to the Authority.

□ Provides strategic and creative vision for CAT marketing and branding efforts to effectively position CAT and its brand, increase ridership, deliver service information, and improve public awareness and community image across all media

□ Provides creative leadership for all visual, technical, and environmental design concepts for marketing-related image, fare media, signage, customer and community outreach programs, as well as internal employee requests.

□ Develops and enforces brand and messaging standards to ensure quality control and consistency

□ Consults with senior management to set budgets, understand goals and objectives and identify appropriate conceptual parameters and approach to implement and evaluated overall marketing program.

□ Establish the most effective procedures and methods or combination of methods to gain valid data. Designs discussion guides, moderates focus groups, conducts structured and semi-structured personal interviews as part of a continual improvement process to improve CAT standing in the community.

□ Develop strategic business relationships with major employers and community stakeholders to improve revenue, ridership and transportation operations for the community.

□ Responsible for all outside sales programs including ticketing, passes, advertising and various authority programs.

□ Incorporate best practices and market research into our system development program to ensure CAT is on the forefront of transportation in our community.

□ Provide legislative support and counsel to advance the authority’s legislative agenda.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Provides supervision over the entire marketing, communications, graphics and business development program through direct reports and in-direct reports.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE The preferred candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree in a related field and, have five to seven years marketing, business development or communications experience. Prior experience with a public transit agency is a plus.

LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. English required, bilingual a plus.

REASONING ABILITY Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions, Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations. Strong analytical skills are a must.

COMPUTER SKILLS Experience with word processing, spreadsheets, Internet software, e-mail, and/or database software preferred. Microsoft Office skills are required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Professional procurement certification is a plus.
