6 July 2016Transnet beefs up its Business Development unit in drive for new business I am pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Gert de Beer as Chief Business Development Officer and Mr Mike Fanucchi as Group Executive: Commercial Sales and Marketing. The appointments are in the wake of Transnet’s drive to intensify its efforts to diversify sources of revenue, boost performance and enhance customer satisfaction. Both appointments are effective 1 August 2016. Gert will join the Group Leadership Team and report directly to the Group Chief Executive.He will lead the company’s drive to become an integrated logistics partner, offering innovative solutions to its traditional and new customers. He is specifically tasked with establishing leadership and strategic capabilities required to enable our railways, ports and pipelines businesses to work collectively in serving our customers.Gert has in-depth knowledge of the public and private sectors, having worked for companies such as Kagiso Group, Transnet and recently Deloitte Consulting, where he was Chief Operating Officer (Africa Growth Regions) responsible for implementation of complex and transformational solutions for customers across the continent. He also led the consultancy’s foray into emerging markets. His ability to facilitate collaboration amongst complex stakeholders and extensive experience across the continent will add further value to the leadership team.His previous role as General Manager: Commercial at Transnet Group and exposure to international port operations and innovations, give him a solid foundation for this role.Gert is a Chartered Accountant and holds a Master’s Degree in Commerce from the University of Pretoria.Mike is a seasoned executive with extensive experience in logistics, supply chain management, operations and business development. He has held various leadership roles in large corporations such as leading logistics companies Barloworld and Imperial.Mike will lead our charge into new markets, with a particular focus on strengthening regional trade in manufacturing, automotive, bulk, industrial and retail sectors. He will report to the Chief Business Development Officer and will play a key role in ensuring that Transnet remains in touch with the latest market trends.He has served on the boards of numerous companies, including Transnet. Mike holds a Master of Science in Engineering from Wits University.In addition, Mr Herbert Msagala, who was previously Group Executive for Transnet Capital Projects, has been transferred to office of the Chief Business Development Officer as Group Executive: Business Development. Herbert joined Transnet 19 years ago as an Engineering Technician at Transnet Freight Rail and has a firm foundation in the railway, port operations and infrastructure development business. He rose through the ranks to become General Manager: Resource allocation at Freight Rail’s National Command Centre before being appointed the Chief Operating Officer of the National Ports Authority. In 2014, he was appointed Group Executive responsible for the Transnet Specialist unit, TCP, which is responsible for the execution of the capital programme. His extensive rail operations and port management skills will put him in good stead to contribute to the acceleration of Transnet’s business growth.
