|JOB TITLE: Chief Executive Officer |

|KEY RELATIONSHIPS: Board of Trustees, Director of Operations, Finance Manager, HR Manager, Business Support Manager, Senior Managers, Commissioners, |

|JOB PURPOSE |

|To be responsible for the successful leadership of the organisation according to the strategic direction set by the Board of Trustees. To be |

|responsible for the financial security, legal compliance, and the organisation’s operational activity. |

| |

|MAIN DUTIES |

| |

|Leadership and governance |

|To provide support to the board in arranging and the operation of board meetings, agenda preparation and effective interchange of information |

|In partnership with the Chair to work with the board to recruit, train and support board members. |

|Support the board to work effectively and foster a partnership approach between the board and senior staff |

|Inform the board of factors that actually or potentially affect the smooth running of the organisation |

|Operational planning and management |

|Develop an operational plan which incorporates goals and objectives that work towards the strategic objective of the organisation |

|Oversee the effective day to day operation of the organisation |

|Prepare and regularly revise policies and procedures that lead to the smooth operation of the organisation |

|Keep abreast of national and legislative developments |

|Identify opportunities for growth |

|Oversee the planning, implementation and evaluation of the organisation’s services |

| |

|Strategy and vision |

|Work with the board to develop and deliver a strategic plan |

|Work with the board to produce a mission statement and vision statement and impart this to staff. |

|Ensure that services and programs offered by the organisation contribute to its mission statement and reflect the priorities of the board |

|Financial planning and management |

|Work with the finance manager to prepare a financial strategy for approval by the board |

|Ensure a comprehensive strategy is in place |

|Participate in fundraising events if necessary |

|Approve expenditure as approved by the board |

|Administer the funds of the organisation in line with budgets |

|Prepare reports for submission to the board |

|Ensure the organisation complies with all legislation and procedural requirements |

|Work with auditors to ensure compliance |

|Human resources planning and management |

|Determine staffing requirements in line with operational activity |

|Oversee implementation of HR policies and procedures and Staff Handbook |

|Ensure that new staff have the correct technical and personal abilities to help further the organisation’s aims and objectives |

|Ensure that all staff understand the organisation’s mission, values and objective and that they are inducted at the commencement of their employment |

|Ensure an appropriate performance management system is in place |

|Ensure a system is in place for the management of staff behavior and, where necessary ensure staff are disciplined or dismissed in line with company |

|policy and employment law |

|Protect the organisation against undue risk from employment tribunal claims |

|Motivate and develop existing staff and ensure new staff understand the company’s mission and objectives |

|Legal compliance |

|To ensure compliance, legal or otherwise, especially in the following areas: |

|Data protection |

|Financial requirements |

|Health and Safety |

|Charity Commission |

|Insurance |

|Employment legislation |

|Fundraising regulations |

|Contract compliance |

|Policies and procedures |

|Community and public relations |

|Act as an ambassador and spokesperson for the organisation and build relationships with stakeholders, the media and senior officers. |

|Represent the organisation as necessary at events, with government or public sector officers |

|Ensures a strong public image is presented to stakeholders, members, and customers |

| |

|Any other duties that fall within the scope and responsibility and seniority of the post |
