TOPIC: COUNSELING SCENARIOS
ASSIGN: INVITATIONS
- SN Jones has a history of being late to work. He has been counseled 3 times, in the past two weeks, for arriving to work 30-60 minutes late. Your LPO tells you that SN Jones keeps falling asleep at work. Today, SN Jones arrived 45 minutes late and appears very tired and run down. You're furious, but to this point you have given him the benefit of the doubt and not initiated a report chit. What would you do?
- Your LPO, Petty Officer Johnson, is on the fast track to Chief. She is the number one first class in the command, just received her associate's degree and is heavily involved in both command and community. Additionally, she has done an outstanding job as your LPO. You believe she is ready for the next level! To this point in her career she has had no disciplinary problems. SN Smith comes into your office and says he thinks Petty Officer Johnson has been drinking. You bring Petty Officer Johnson into your office and smell alcohol. You sit her down and ask her what's going on. She responds and tells you a long time friend came to town last night and they went out and tied one on. She emphatically apologized and said she used poor judgment. What would you do?
- SN Hayes is a hard charging young sailor, one of the top SN in the department. SN Hayes has a wife and a newborn child (3 months old). He comes into your office and asks if he can speak with you. He said chief; I have a really big problem. Yesterday I received an eviction notice. I have been struggling to pay the rent and subsequently I've fallen a few months behind. What would you do?
- You are a division chief at an NSGA. There is a CTR3 that works for you that has had a problem in the past writing bad checks. He has already been formally counseled and received financial counseling. The command has just received a letter stating Petty Officer Thomas has written 6 bad checks at the exchange. What would you do?
- You are the chief in charge at PSD. You get word from one of your sailors that the CMC has a drug problem. You being a personal friend of the CMC, decide to address this off duty. You go to his house to confront the CMC. When he lets you in, the house smells of marijuana and there is drug paraphernalia on the table. What would you do?
- Petty Officer Smith has been a top performer. However, over the past few months his quality of work has deteriorated significantly. He doesn't seem to care as much as he used to. He used to wear a very squared away uniform and now he no longer irons his utilities. Recently he has been coming into work late and when you confront him you smell alcohol. What would you do?
- You 're a division chief at SK " A" school. You are out one night at a club and notice that one of your classes is having a class party. You approach one of the instructors to see how things are going and to ensure that there are designated drivers. The instructor informs you that it' s all under control. Then you notice in the corner of the club one of the other instructors with his arm around a student and she is rubbing his leg. What would you do?
- You are a MS chief stationed at the galley in San Diego, CA. One of your SN was recently married and has just brought his wife down from Oregon. They just moved out in town and are struggling to make ends meet. He comes to you and says chief I feel like I'm in over my head. I am barley paying the bills, my wife is having a hard time finding a job and we don't even have pots to cook with. Furthermore, my car just broke down yesterday and the mechanic said it would cost me $1100.00 to fix it. I don't have that kind of money. What would you do?
