Ancient CHINA Postcard Mini-Project

You are a merchant who has been traveling through the Zhou, Qin, and Han Empires and you are writing home to tell of your adventure. You will be writing to two different people about two different topics from the list below. All information can be found in the textbook or your notes. You will need to make a rough draft before you are given the final materials.

1) You will use the post card template to make your post cards with. On one side will be your postcard message. The opposite side will be an illustration of some of the wonders you have seen on the trip that match your description on the back.

2) Complete your message first. It will be much longer than the traditional postcard message as you are the first person to see these wonders. Select two of the seven below topics to write about, but one must be about Confucianism, Legalism, or Daoism (letter C or D).

a. Describe the geographic features of land you have crossed and its climate.

b. Tell about a danger you have encountered by accidently not following cultural norms.

c. As you have traveled, what have you seen that lets you know that Confucianism is practiced in this region? Describe the evidence of Confucianism influence.

d. As you have traveled, what have you seen that lets you know that Legalism or Daoism is being practiced in this region? Describe the evidence of these influences.

e. What trade goods have you brought to trade? What goods are you bringing home? Have you witnessed any special trade practice?

f. Describe some of Ancient China’s contributions to the world.

g. Describe the people meet along your travels. What were they like? How do they live? You must discuss social structure.

3. Edit and revise your rough draft. On a computer or free hand, rewrite your message. You can type it on a computer and glue it to your postcard. You will be graded on correct punctuation and capitalization. Be sure to leave space on the right side of the post card to write the address of you’re sending it from. Choose a city and region in the world at that time to be from.

4. Design a stamp that is appropriate for the unit on China. Use a topic, a symbol, or type of Chinese art. Examples: Trade goods, religious symbols, geography, climate, animals….(hint: use your textbook for ideas)

5. This will be graded based upon the attached rubric.

6. HIGHLIGHT ALL VOCABULARY BEFORE YOU HAND IN YOUR FINAL COPY.
