Excerpts from Journal Entry #1: MY NAME1. In China, usually before babies are born, parents are busy at giving their children good names, and they usually take the five elements, horoscope and family tree into consideration, besides observe these rules, the final names should be easy to remember and easy to say, so we can say that to give a child a name is the first important challenge for the parents. We often see parents are busy turning dictionary to find good names or let their relative to help them choose a good name. 2. When it refers to my name, I can tell a lot of stories about it. When I went to primary school, our teacher in charge of our class rowed student IDs by strokes of our family name. As my family name had the most strokes in our class, my ID is no doubt the last one. And this arrange brought me the most directly benefit is that the teacher arranged the speaks by our IDs, so I was always the last one, most probably I didn’t need to prepare for the speaks.3. When we come to talk about names, firstly we may think about mainly the differences between Chinese names and English names. As it knows to all, in China, we usually put our family name on the first place, and the given name comes next to it, but it not English to say, by English idioms and expressions, they usually put their given name first, and the family names the last, and they usually have a middle names which they don't always use.4. Zhang, is the third most common surname, originated from the earliest human ancestor named Huangdi whose son gave this surname to his generations 2,700 years ago. Zhang is my family name, which is very common in China and used by more than eighty-seven million people in the world. As so many people have this family name, there are also a lot of people sharing it during the famous people at all times. Fei Zhang is one of the most famous generals during the Three Kidoms and Heng Zhang is a famous scientist in Han Dynasty. Also, Zhongjing Zhang is a doctor of traditional Chinese medicine who is called the saint of medicine in China.5. For my name is so boyish, I remember when my father helped me to boarding high school reports, the teacher even don’t ask my father his child is a boy or a girl, until my father and I carried our luggage to the dormitory, we find out the arrangement to me is Male Dormitory, what a terrible mistake and should be attributed to my boyish name anyway. ................
