McDonald will send suggestions; will be finalized by district. Will be two rounds, once at district, and then goes to school-level committee.TimelinePosition posted 4-28; hope to have pool by mid-May. Most admin positions work a 60 day notice. Hopes to have master schedule finalized before transition. Hopes to fill known vacancies ASAP. Desirable traitsFamiliar with dual language/ESL; teacher working conditions survey—value teachers; understanding of high-poverty school population; pro-community and pro-JM—believes in us. (may need to send potential questions to Frazier, such as: What experiences have shaped how you view the role of school administrators?)Testing PlanTeacher MadeNCFE/EOCCTE Post Assessments: Think Gate bankrupt; state working on plan for CTE testsOur testing window is now ten days—do we need to give CTE exams early to get grades back? Checked with Batten, not clear about process. We must give them—no option to skip. Must it be two hours? How would that impact regular school day? More CTE than EOC & NC Finals combined. Can we do only seniors? Can we combine smaller groups? Can they come back into the classroom? McDonald will consult with district on these questions.AP: no teacher-made, except for students who do not show up to the test.Writing PlanGrade Level TargetsDepartmental distributionMcDonald distributed a portion of the SCOS for English that deal with writing. Pate shared summary of Grace Hatcher’s writing portfolio experience. McDonald suggested we adapt a program that asked students to write within departments, at different points in the semester. Tillett—work through subject/class, not grade because many courses have mixed grade levels. Deaton—asked if perhaps we are giving assignments that help students grow as writers, because we are focused on content, not skills.McDonald—first step perhaps what would your first writing assignment be in your course? Deaton—perhaps examine assignments in the light of subject writing standards?McDonald—will share with departments, and ask them to submit an sample assignment.Restorative JusticeTerminology around ISS/ASD/BSD/OSSDid anyone feel strongly we needed to move toward a restorative justice program? One parent was concerned with the connotation of the term “detention” and had a too strong connection both to immigration detention and incarceration. Asked us to look at the terminology. Discussed. Beasley said in a former school it was called “Choices” because students had made a poor choice. Our number one infraction is for tardies. Calendar Review-DC Trip-Prom-AVID banquette-Athletic Banquette-GraduationOthers: CTE Awards Night May 14, Music Concert May 21, Senior Awards May 28.Reminded: Keep kids out of halls first and last 15 minutes. Should kids be allowed outside the cafeteria during lunch? Not for this school year.Pate: Next year’s team—who is on second year of the cycle? Up this year: Science, ESL, World Language, Teaching Assistants ................
