We are looking at beginning registration the week of Feb. 16 with visits to feeder schools and class meetings—exact days for class meetings TBA. District is not printing any copies of the Course Guide—it’s online only—so we will print our own for rising freshmen. Program Showcase Tuesday, Feb. 24. Tables set up in gym for departments and CTE programs, inviting feeder and current parents.English Language 30 minute session/Spanish Language 30 minute session. Departments need to plan their displays and materials for the showcase in the gym. Breadth of our offerings is one of the strengths of our school. How many people should be at this showcase per department? 2-3, especially for core subjects.Class meetings: students will get course lists and registration form, counselors will meet with kids, they will bring back signed forms, will conclude meetings with our students by April 2, should have feeder schools info by March 20.Students registering for a class needing an application or audition should submit them early so we can see if they are selected; if not, can make another choice. Will be meeting with EC teachers from feeder schools Feb. 11 about our program offerings here as well. Will hopefully make transition meetings smoother.Pate asked how we could use our experiences last year to help make a better schedule. McDonald shared problems with PowerSchool last year—hoping that will be better. We also have to make our matrix before we get our teaching allotments, which causes problems.Stressed need to remind students to take their choices seriously, and treat it like a contract because we use it to make the schedule. We will not be asking students to take their form around for teacher recommendation/sign-off on their choices. Morris reported that language about guidelines for enrollment is various levels of classes has, for the most part been removed from the course selection guide.Progress ReportsFirst three weeks ends Wed. Feb. 11. Please distribute progress reports then. We will begin Launch Monday Feb. 16. Launch ScheduleThere will be a Google Doc for recording what students are supposed to be in Launch for what class (instead of spreadsheets), so we can look that information up.Google Drive Doc for Conference Room Sign UpMake sure to contact Mrs. Hanner if you are planning to use the conference room. We will create a form for signup on Google DriveEarly Release Day PlanFeb. 11: Math folks have someone coming in that day—all district math teachers. DPI has a new rubric for lesson plan evaluation called Equip to make sure we have rigorous lesson plans. Math teachers will need to bring lesson plans.EC people transition meetings.Everyone else in here working on lesson plan support, lead by Ms. Herrera.ACT ModulesDistrict has video modules for ACT prep. Will be setting up sessions during Launch to prep for ACT, and working on incentivizing students to attend. McDonald will email us links to videos so we can preview.Local ScholarshipsLast year students did not apply for some scholarships, so money wasn’t given out. Please encourage students to apply for these scholarships. Booklet available online and as a paper copy.Domestic Violence MonthFebruary is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Nikki Siler heading up activities. Color is orange. She will be in cafeteria doing awareness raising throughout the month, and perhaps a movie night as well.Lesson Plan/EQ reminderOn walkarounds, not seeing as many essential questions, or seeing some that have been up for weeks. Please post current and relevant ones in classrooms.Black History MonthFebruary is Black History Month. McDonald contacted Civil Rights Museum in Greensboro; they do guided tours. We are setting up a date for trip to this museum for any students who want to go. Can take up to 80 kids. Still don’t know what group rate for museum, and trip not scheduled yet, perhaps on a Friday after school. More info from McDonald when trip is finalized.Buddy PicturesOn Feb. 6; set up in Cafeteria. $10. Sign up in front of Mrs. Beasley’s door, or can do “walk-ups.”KeysThe exterior doors have all been re-keyed. There will be new keys. Over time, lost keys have made our building insecure. Mrs. Tobar will be putting copies of door code in our box. It’s not a good idea to share these codes. Please keep them secure.Cindy asked if there was a policy about who gets keys. That will be an admin decision. We will have to order extra keys, and we don’t know how long that will take. Tori asked if there could be more keypads installed. McDonald said he had asked for one to be installed on the ag/band door, but it was denied.Manda asked if Field Trip Information document had been approved; McDonald said he would take a look at it today.Tillett asked when we might hear about Capital Outlay. No time soon.Pate asked about what we know about School Performance Grades. There will be a toolkit for teachers posted about these grades. The weight of the grade is 80% proficiency, 20% growth, which is not what we hoped it would be. ACCESS testing next week; after that, will be getting with teachers with 4th block planning about the pre-bubble session for the ACT. ................
