January 2019

Greetings in the name of our risen Savior! On behalf of your Mid-South Churches Leadership Team, I thank you for your support and prayers since our last session. We were tremendously blessed with spirited teaching and inspirational messages during our 68th Session. Now, we look forward to our 2019 combined sessions of our State Convention, Congress, and Association.

About Mid-South Churches Cooperative Conference (Baptist) State Convention (MSCCC) is a fellowship of Mid-South churches dedicated to the promotion of Christian education through the fulfillment of the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20).

Vision/Mission: We will become the leading Christian education voice among National Baptist Churches and other doctrinally aligned churches by staying true to Christ’s Great Commission in Matthew 28:19-20.

Goals: Our Christian education goals are

• To equip and train the people of God directly and indirectly by providing opportunities for local churches, districts, and other unions to be certified while fostering love, humility and unity;

• To continue affiliation with the National Baptist Convention, USA, Incorporated; and

• To continue certification by the Sunday School Publishing Board (SSPB).

Brief History: Our State Congress traces its origin to the year 1938 with the expansion of the Paradise Sunday School and Baptist Training Union (BTU) under the leadership of Deacon Dan Robinson (New Hope-Walls). The BTU continued meeting annually until 1954. From 1954-1966, there was a period of inactivity. However, in 1966, the Congress was reorganized at Independent-Tyro as the North Mississippi Baptist Education Congress with Pastor L. S. Biles (Carroll Bluff) elected as president and Pastor V. B. Brown (St. Paul) as Dean. In March 2009, Dr. Michael O. Minor was elected president. Under his tenure, the Congress changed its name to the North Mississippi Baptist State Congress of Christian Education. In 2017, the Congress officially became the Mid-South Churches Cooperative Conference State Congress of Christian Education. Other Deans include Pastor T. J. Denson (1970-1977, West Antioch #2), Deacon S. D. Minor, Sr. (Mt. Calm, 1977-1988), Ms. Mable Lawrence (1988-2010, Hickory Grove), Dr. Michael O. Minor (Oak Hill/The Hill-Hernando, 2011-2012), Ms. Loretta Miller (Prince of Peace, 2013-present). Other Presidents include: Pastor Jacob Davis (1987-1989, Hammond Hill), Pastor CJ Thomas (1989-2009, Pleasant Hill), and Dr. Michael O. Minor (Oak Hill/The Hill-Hernando, 2009-present).

Mid-South Churches Cooperative Conference (Baptist) State Convention (MSCCC) began as an informal network of pastors committed to Christian education, health and wellness, and economic development in 2002. On August 8, 2008, MSCCC launched a web portal. Through the years, Mid-South Churches hosted several Christian education workshops and an online regional calendar of events. In December 2011, at the move of the Holy Spirit among pastors in North Mississippi, the web portal was transformed into a full-fledged conference of churches. After a unanimous vote of the officers, pastors, and members on May 31, 2012, MSCCC became a State Convention/State Congress/Association. At the same time, the Original North Mississippi Baptist State Congress changed its affiliation to MSCCC. In June 2012, the MSCCC affiliated with the NBCUSA.

W205 Expressions of Worship in Dance Workshop -

Mr. Howard Franklin, Jr., Pleasant Hill, and Ms. Markisha Hudson, The Hill-Hernando

Gospel dance is dramatic and theatrical; it uses elements of the theater such as miming. This workshop is open to all ages but especially to youth and young adults ages 13-21. During interactive sessions, participants will focus on the Biblical basis for music in the church and liturgical (praise) dance as well as learn creative ways to perform. Participants will perform during the Youth Rally on Friday night.

Line 1. Fill the date that form was mailed or faxed. List the total number of class attendees including youth and children.

Line 2. List the name, day and evening phone numbers, and e-mail address (if applicable) for the person to be contacted for any clarification of information completed. The contact person can be the pastor, superintendent, or another person.

Line 3. Complete the church information. Be sure to list the church mailing address and not the physical address. If your church does not have an e-mail address, list the e-mail address of the pastor or other designee.

Lines 4-6. Complete the information for the pastor, superintendent, and youth ministry leader. You can include either the church mailing address or his or her mailing address. Only include the e-mail address if it is different than the church’s e-mail address.

Lines 7 and 8. Churches who wish to be considered for the attendance banner must complete the section for Sunday School.
