WELCOME,

WORK

YOUR

WAY

ATTENDEES!

BY STARTING YOUR OWN BUSINESS

YOU¡¯LL START A NEW LIFESTYLE. AND

YOU¡¯LL PROBABLY START QUESTIONING

THE MAINSTREAM BELIEFS THAT SO

MANY PEOPLE TAKE FOR GRANTED.

And once you start questioning

whether working long hours for

someone else is really the best

way to live, it¡¯s easy to start

questioning whether outsourcing

your child¡¯s education is actually a

good idea.

School can seem seem a little

structured. A little limiting.

Something that will disrupt and

interfere with your lifestyle,

rather than support it. Something

that forces you to adopt certain

hours and fit with their schedule.

A method that is dated,

inefficient, and no real guarantee

of getting an actual education.

And school, with its rigid,

authoritarian structure, is not the

best way to raise free thinkers and

independent learners - giving

children no control over their

education for at least 15 years is

not the way to create an adult that

will be a keen and confident selfdirected learner.

Or maybe you just want to travel

lots and don¡¯t really care about all

the stuff above - that¡¯s fine too!

ABOUT

I have five never-schooled children aged between 15 and 10. I¡¯ve worked at home along with

homeschooling for most of the last 12 years. I started off with a cloth nappy and tie-dyeing business,

took a few years off to study (and worked harder!) and now help homeschoolers stop schooling and

start educating via Fearless Homeschool and virtual summits.

Homeschooling and working from home has given us incredible freedom. We've bought, renovated,

and sold five houses. We've lived off-grid and learned how to produce our own food, from paddock to

plate. We've also spent three years travelling Australia and are currently doing a nine-month trip

through Europe.

One thing I¡¯ve learned is that pre-built homeschooling curriculum can be absolutely amazing.

Curriculum written for the homeschooling community is typically more engaging, more rigorous, and

much easier to understand than school textbooks. It's created for the parent and the child and relies

heavily on word of mouth for sales - if it¡¯s difficult, boring, or irrelevant, they simply won¡¯t succeed.

When you¡¯re working you don¡¯t always have the time or the inclination to spend hours crafting lesson

plans and activities. The best resources are the ones that you can pull out, open up, and get started on

straight away. The resources here may have a little preparation, such as printing or making sure you

have basic supplies available, but they don¡¯t require extensive preparation or creating resources from

scratch. Most require nothing more than a computer and internet connection, or a pencil and paper.

Please note: You will ALWAYS need to be involved. None of these resources are designed to be

completely hands-off - the interaction and teamwork in homeschooling should not be avoided. Even

teens who are mostly self-directed will still require some assistance, cheerleading, monitoring,

motivation, and company. This is not a guide to set and forget homeschooling - that¡¯s missing the

point of providing a rich, individualised education. But with resources like those below, homeschooling

shouldn¡¯t take any more of your time than sending your children to school and doing school runs,

homework, and volunteer tasks. Seriously!

TYPES OF CURRICULUM

There are two types of homeschooling

curriculum. OK, there are actually LOTS of

types, but we'll just worry about these two

for now!

- curriculum that covers all the core

subjects for a period of time (usually a

year)

- curriculum that covers one subject

specifically.

What you choose will depend on your

family. Would you like to get one box of

supplies and work through it all? Or would

you like to personalise it a little more, with

different approaches for different areas?

Are your children happy with a similar

approach to all subjects, or do they need

more variety?

Many people begin with a complete yearly

curriculum while they find their feet and

settle into homeschooling, and find they

move into purchasing different resources

for different subjects as they learn their

approach and begin to feel more confident

tailoring resources to their needs. Some

buy complete curriculum every year, but

pick and choose how deeply they delve into

each subject area, and supplement it with

other books, courses, or activities.

It¡¯s all up to you - and while that's what

makes homeschooling so wonderful it can

also make it a little daunting and

overwhelming!

Keep reading to find out how to reduce the

overwhelm.
