November 2016 Volunteer OpportunitiesDear Friend of Interfaith,As Thanksgiving approaches, we are reminded how much you do for our agency and wanted to share our sincerest thank you.Urgent NeedsSchool's in SessionBanting Readers Café: Read with 5th grade students during their lunch and recess hour on Thursdays from 11:50am-12:40pm– encouraging a love for reading while improving their comprehension and social skills. Volunteers will be matched up with 2 students for each session throughout the school year, the first session starts on November 10th and goes through December 15th. We are still in need of a few more volunteers for the start of the program next week! Spanish Speakers are highly welcomed!Pen Pal: Looking for a volunteer opportunity close to home? Help a 2nd-5th grade student in Waukesha or Menomonee Falls with their penmanship and build an intergenerational relationship as you exchange correspondence over the school year. At the end of the school year Pen Pals will meet their students face-to-face at the meet and greet party. She needs to finish organizing her home. The volunteer will not work, just be there to encourage her along. She’s a lovely lady who needs a person with a compassionate heart.Minor Home Repair: We are looking for someone to install 2 railings for an eighty year old resident of Brookfield. Outdoor RequestsSnow Removal: Meals on Wheels is not able to deliver to driveways that aren’t shoveled. Help provide safety and security for someone, as well as, ensuring they’ll still get their meals. Every year we have more requests than volunteers for shoveling sidewalks and driveways. Help us serve those in need! We are looking for volunteers willing to commit to shoveling for their neighbors every time the snow falls. Volunteers will be placed along the running route winding through Frame Park and over the Fox River. The route starts & finishes in Downtown Waukesha. Operation is Monday thru Friday from 7:30am to 4:30pm. Daily schedules vary by need. Volunteers should be willing to drive one day per week throughout the year. Substitute drivers are also needed. Volunteers pick up their schedules and cars from the Muskego Senior Taxi Office at the ProHealth Care Muskego Regency Senior community at the corner Racine Avenue (Hwy Y) and Woods Rd. in Muskego. Clients are ambulatory, so no lifting of wheelchairs is required. We generally drive our clients to locations throughout SE Waukesha County and SW Milwaukee County. Clients and their family members are always very grateful for this support. ?Christmas Clearing Council: Volunteers perform tasks that support CCC's mission of providing Christmas gifts to children in low-income families in Waukesha County. Duties include answering phone calls from sponsors, clients, and the community at large with questions about our program, procedures, and deadlines. They provide training and support to volunteers, but volunteers must be comfortable answering a phone not knowing who will be calling or what questions they will have. The phone volunteers also are able to match sponsors to client families based on family size, children’s ages, and location. In addition, tasks may include: completing paperwork, filing, or other misc. tasks as needed. Skills needed: pleasant demeanor, willingness to take on new tasks, flexibility, attention to detail, quick learner, and the ability to empathize with those less fortunate.
