CVI Course Description

A 2 day seminar in combination with individual assessment:

This workshop will provide content about cortical visual impairment (CVI), the leading cause of pediatric visual impairment. It will include information about: ? The definitions of CVI. ? The characteristic behaviors of children with CVI ? The medical causes of CVI. ? Assessment of functional vision for children with CVI. ? Intervention strategies for individuals with CVI.

Examples of instructional adaptations and specialized environments will be shared and video samples will reinforce the specialized methods.

THE CVI RANGE Participants will be offered instruction on The CVI Range. The CVI Range is a reliable and valid instrument used to determine the degree of functional vision on a numeric scale. The CVI Range addresses the specific visual and behavioral characteristics associated with CVI.

FUNCTIONAL VISION ASSESMENT Further participants will be provided opportunities to practice this functional vision assessment protocol. A functional vision assessment is a method used to determine and explain HOW a child with either ocular or cortical visual impairment uses their vision is the activities of everyday life. The results of The CVI Range are used to plan specific supports and interventions for individuals with CVI.

INDIVIDUAL ASSESMENT In addition to the workshop the CVI Range assessments and suggestions for interventions will be offered to families in individual sessions.
