NORTH MERCHISTON CLUB LTD

Dunblane Development Trust

Volunteer Co-ordinator

BACKGROUND

The Dunblane Development Trust (DDT) was established in 2003 to promote and support local community action for the benefit of people in Dunblane. The DDT is a registered charity and limited company owned by the community through our membership which is open to all who live and work in Dunblane.

Our activities are almost entirely managed and carried out by volunteers mainly through the operation of our working groups –

• Dunblane in Bloom which works to make Dunblane an attractive town to live in and to visit, through the provision of permanent and seasonal plantings around the town

• Environment Group which aims to restore or improve key play areas, parks and paths in a sustainable and environmentally-friendly way

• Midweek Group which provides practical expertise on DIY projects that enhance the ambience of the town including the provision of the annual town centre Christmas lighting

• Paths Group which maintains paths around Dunblane

• Dunblane Community Support which offers practical support to those in need during the current pandemic

• Dementia Friendly Dunblane which offers a range of support to those with dementia and their families and promotes Dunblane as Dementia Friendly Community

• E Bikes which offers training and hire of our small fleet of e bikes

The DDT has also managed the Braeport Community Centre for 10 years and now owns the building. It has become the regular meeting point for many community groups/clubs and is available for hire for birthday parties and other events.

A wholly-owned subsidiary trading company (DDT Projects Ltd) was established in 2009 as a vehicle for delivering major projects on behalf of the DDT thus shielding the Trust from any associated commercial risk. The separate Board of Directors manages the Riverview development (a restaurant with rented accommodation) in the High Street and is exploring possible future projects on behalf of the Trust.

In addition, the DDT has developed at 3 year strategy for the entire organisation which will guide our future priorities and funding requirements.

Volunteers are the life blood of our organisation. We have developed a Volunteer Strategy which, although aspirational, aims to support best practice in supporting and working with volunteers. We currently have nearly 200 volunteers from all walks of like although many are over 60. We are now looking to expand both the numbers of volunteers we have, the types and range of volunteering opportunities available to people, and through our volunteers, expand the services which we can provide to the local community.

DDT works positively and proactively with a number of other community organisations and we would want to develop a community wide approach to supporting and attracting volunteers.
