November 1, 2017

Does anyone know off the top of their heads how many days are there until Thanksgiving? Christmas?

Most of us know Thanksgiving is the fourth Thursday in November, but we don’t exactly know that date or how many days until it happens.

We also know that Christmas is December 25, but we can’t say for sure how many days it is away until we do the math.

Although we do not know the number of days away these events are, we are still excited about them approaching in the not-too-distant future. It’s always good to have something to look forward to.

I urge you this week to take time and think about the things you look forward to. It may be a weekly get together with coffee drinkers. It may be an upcoming birthday. Or it may be a special holiday with family and friends. For some, it may even be a time to spend alone visiting with God.

Think about these things.

Blessings from The Blessing Box

Halloween has been removed and more fall and Thanksgiving has been placed in those spots. This is the time of year that the Blessing Box really comes alive! Oh, we’re alive and well all year long, but fall is what I call the peak of the year. Shoppers get excited about decorations and arrangements, and we get to hear all the chatter about their plans and ideas. Some are decorating every room in the house, all the outside doors, and visiting the cemetery with new flowers for their loved ones there. Some just want a fall leaf or two, or a little scarecrow.

Some of our shoppers feel that this is the most beautiful season we have. Some call it their “season of awareness”, and they cherish and celebrate all of their blessings. Those who aren’t so lifted and think fall is a sad and dreary time hear and see all of the activity at our Blessing Box and go away with a new and almost positive attitude. As they leave and ponder the chatter and ideas they’ve been drawn into, we almost know they will be back next week to purchase their own flowers, leaves, and scarecrows.

We love our Blessing Box!

Thank you all and May God Bless!

Higher Education Special Offering – Nov. 12 & 19

Since the beginning of the movement, higher education has been a priority for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Alexander Campbell once said that “churches and colleges go hand in hand in the progress of Christian civilization.” Campbell’s belief and vision are still true today, and that legacy is reflected in the continued successes of our educational institutions. The fourteen colleges and universities and the seven theological institutions in covenant with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) encourage students in their intellectual pursuits and nurture them as leaders to transform church, society, and world. Our congregation’s gifts to the Higher Education Special Offering on November 12 and 19 helps support these efforts in education and leadership information.

Women’s Ministry

Our Women’s Ministries ae in our busiest time of the year. We enjoyed a speaker from Hope Ministries in October. Robyn West was the Executive Director and Tamika was a resident. Four other women attended: Dale Woodard, Cora Beaty, Shannon Oliver, and Julie Craddock-Bragg. Our November 8 meeting will be a Bazaar planning session.

We will have our first Back Pack Day on November 7, at 9 am, at the Wright Bldg. on the corner of Church and Broadway. We want to thank everyone for the contributions of foods for this ministry.

The Women’s Breakfast meeting will be cancelled due to our Christmas in the Park Bazaar being November 11. All those who are bringing items to sell, either crafts or food, may have them at the Winnsboro Civic Center on Friday afternoon from 1:00 – 4:00. Items should already be priced. Bakery items need to be there by 8 AM on the 11th. If you haven’t signed the sheet in the fellowship hall, we need workers for the entire day.

Our Women’s Christmas party will be Dec. 13 at Snuckie Stephens' home at 6:30. Each one will bring a $15.00 gift to exchange and food to share.

There is still fleece that needs to be made into blankets. We appreciate those who have been helping with this ministry.

We will continue to give a monthly donation of $30.00 to Morgan’s Mercy Mansion each month, and $50.00 per month to our church. We will also continue to collect the Morgan’s Mercy items that we deliver each month. We appreciate everyone’s participation in our projects.

Blankets sent out in October: Brandie Brown, Kay Atkins, Brandon Renfro, Teda Seuhs, and Quinn Stanford.
