January & February Newsletter 2017Dear Members, Staff would like to wish you a very happy and fulfilling New Year!We certainly finished 2016 with an exciting and varied range of Christmas activities including Christmas cake making, holding a Christmas Fayre, preparing and eating a full Christmas lunch together, a visit to the Barnfield Theatre to see Cinderella, and to Exmouth Pavilion to see the Royal Marines Christmas Concert and finally a Christmas party held at the centre! Lots of photos of some of these events can be seen on our website : .uk. Look under the heading News and Photos. After all the excitement it might be hard to get everyone reinvigorated and ready to begin new projects but on the first week back we have had lots of discussions with members about new activities and outings that members felt would be interesting. Members have been asked if they would like to undertake an activity that may be a challenge to master and is something completely new. Some of the suggestions for activities during these winter months have been:Learning IT and computer skillsSewing, embroidery, dressmaking, knitting and crochetWriting and illustrating storiesPainting on canvasPotterySimple woodwork, metal work, upcycling objectsBasketryFurniture RestorationPrinting fabrics, creating tea shirts with a gateway logo, printing cardsDrama and music, acting out a play to an audiencePlanning and cooking healthy meals as independently as possible, exploring new recipes and ingredients. Some suggestions for outings include:Plymouth AquariumPaignton ZooDonkey SanctuaryBristol Science CentreIndoor bowlingIf any members, relatives or carers have any items that they feel may be helpful ( an old workmate or tools sitting in the corner of a garage) or expertise in any of the above activities we would love to hear from you!
