CHILDREN'S MINISTRY

Fall Parents Meeting Parents of children in rising kindergarten through rising 5th grade, we are having a Fall Parents Meeting about Sunday School and other ministries for our kids on Sunday, August 9, during the Sunday School hour (10:15). The meeting will be held in the Ministry Center. Please make every effort to attend this important meeting! If you can't be in attendance and you already know where you would like to teach this school year, please e-mail cdilts@ so we can put you on the list. We are striving for every Porterfield parent with a child/children in K-5th grade to take a rotation in K.O.O.L. Studios this year (four Sundays). MUSIC MINISTRY

Dear Friends,

This Sunday, August 2, marks one year since I was blessed to be appointed the Minister of Music here at Porterfield. I will be away this Sunday visiting my mother in California and, in fact, today, I am beginning the drive back from our house in the Imperial Valley of Southern California to Albany; a 2,100 mile journey.

I wanted to take a moment in this week's article to thank each and every one of you for the warm welcome you have given me in my first year in this church. I feel that all of you are members of my extended family. The staff here is great, and are a delight with whom to work. I give a special thank you to Jon, Marcy, and Whitney. I could not have asked for a more wonderful music staff! They are a blessing. And with Whitney's departure, I am so pleased to add Selina Bentley to the music staff. She is a true icon of music education in our community...and now a blessing to our church's Music Ministry.

To that end, let me remind you once again that the Music Ministry will be fully up and running soon. The lineup is below, and you will surely find a place for you and your family to make a joyful noise unto the Lord here in your church. A quick reminder for fall: -Our Children's Choirs are moving to Wednesday evenings following Wednesday Night Supper, at 6:15 p.m. The Kickoff will be August 19. -Youth Choirs are staying on Sunday afternoons, but will both rehearse at the same time, at 4:30 p.m., and will both include special end-of-year travel opportunities. Youth Choirs will kick off on September 20. -The Chancel Choir, the Women's Ensemble, and the Handbell Choir will all return in the fall in their regular rehearsal times on Wednesday evenings. We need You to sing and ring; all three groups are open to youth and adults.

Please prayerfully consider your calling to be a part of Porterfield's Music Ministry.

Peace,

Marc

New Wednesday Night Adult Programming Starts Aug. 19

W ednesday nights in the fall are exciting nights in the life of the church. The children will participate in musical activities, and the youth will also start up their school year schedule. In an effort to make Wednesday night an all-inclusive night ? where people of all ages and spiritual maturity levels can be involved ? we are going to start offering different options for adults.

Following Wednesday Night Supper, adults will have three different options from which to choose. Throughout the year the options and studies will change, and you are not locked into that choice all year long. We will call these options "Breakouts." Each Breakout will focus on different aspects of Christianity.

Breakout 1 will be held in the Ministry Center and focus on Christian Life. The studies in this session will broadly cover the aspects of living as a follower of Jesus Christ in the world. The first study will be "Simplify" by Bill Hybels and led by Nate Lehman.

Breakout 2 will be held in the Parlor and will focus on Spiritual Growth and Disciplines. Caren Dilts, our new children's director, will be leading a study on prayer. The study is titled "Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire" by Jim Cymbala.

Breakout 3 will be held in the Ministry Center Annex and will focus on Discipleship. This study will examine the challenges of discipleship and equip participants for sharing their faith. The first study is titled "Not a Fan" by Kyle Idleman, and will be led by Blake Wilson.

Please take the opportunity to join us on Wednesday nights. If you are interested in leading a class in the future, let Nate know at nlehman@.
