Member Engagement Coordinator

Position Description

PURPOSE: To serve the church by connecting people to God and to one another, equipping people for ministry, and integrating members and friends into the life of the congregation.

ACCOUNTABILITY: The Member Engagement Coordinator shall be directly responsible to the Senior Associate Pastor for Congregational Care and Administration and to the Staff Committee. The Senior Associate Pastor will review the performance of the Coordinator in accordance with procedures established by the Staff Committee.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Member Engagement Coordinator will lead in creating a culture of welcome and connection throughout the church and will work with the Mission and Ministry Coordinator and other members of the church staff, various councils/committees and perform duties in the following areas.

Prospective/New Member Responsibilities: Assist the Senior Associate Pastor to plan, organize, and provide leadership for the new member ministry program.

a. Prospective Member Responsibilities:

• Connect with, contact, and follow-up with first and second-time visitors.

• Send communications/schedules to potential new members.

b. New Member Responsibilities – Oversee the member integration and assimilation process:

• Meet regularly with the new member committee to plan for the ministry.

• Coordinate all logistics for new member events.

• Communication of new member information to appropriate lay leaders and staff.

• Ensure appropriate tracking for all activities.

• Oversee process for obtaining new member photos to ACS (maintaining on-line pictorial directory).

• Ensure consistent interaction with new members during their first year of membership, personal and targeted communication, and with the Ministry and Mission Coordinator, helping each member get connected to ministry at PHPC.

Connections Responsibilities:

a. Facilitate members in connecting more deeply to all ministries of the church.

b. Plan and organize church-wide fellowship activities as needed at the direction of the executive team.

c. Maintain a welcoming presence on Sunday (morning and Worship @ 5) modeling Christian love and hospitality.

• Recruit and train members for service in the areas of hospitality, member integration and parish life (hospitality coordinators/volunteers, Welcome Desk, Holy Joe’s, Greeters, Holy Rollers, etc.).

• Ensure volunteers/pastors have appropriate instructions and supplies.

• Ensure appropriate tracking for all activities.

• Communicate details and plans with those involved.

Small Group Ministry Responsibilities: Assist the Senior Associate Pastor and other appropriate staff to plan, organize, and provide leadership for small group ministry.

• Recruit new and current members to participate in small groups.

• Oversee and execute the process of small group sign-ups, including coordination to place members in groups that will be meaningful to their spiritual growth, age, and stage of life.

• Communicate details and plans with those involved.

• Ensure that small group leaders and participants have appropriate curricula and supplies.

• Develop and implement a plan for greater participation in small groups.

Maintain office hours as directed by the Senior Associate Pastor. This includes attending weekly staff meetings, planning meetings, and fellowship gatherings.

Execute other requests made by the Senior Associate Pastor.

• Volunteer Management: Provides direction, gains commitment, facilitates change, engages people in their areas of giftedness and passion.

• Hospitality/Accessibility: Generates a sense of hospitality and accessibility by his/her very presence; fosters natural connections between members of the congregation and visitors; implements and supports a culture of welcoming and connection in the life of the congregation.

• Spiritual Life: Be a passionate and faithful follower of Jesus Christ who is willing to share the Gospel in both word and deed, to think theologically, to minister relationally, and to live missionally.

• Bachelor’s degree

• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite of software

• Experience with Membership Database desirable

Required Schedule: Work week is an average of 30 hours per week (required Sunday hours are normally 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. – 6:15 p.m.; remaining hours are normally during office hours Tuesday through Thursday.)
