Job Description for Teacher of Computer Science

This is a full-time teaching role in one of the leading independent schools in the country and it recognises and rewards teaching excellence. We offer attractive salaries and pay progression when compared with the wider education sector and, specifically, with the independent sector, including providers like the Girls’ Day School Trust. The school has a sophisticated salary structure which rewards experience, excellence and responsibility.

The Department

The department currently consists of two teachers and is based in a large, well-equipped computer suite with adjacent office. The new PCs in the suite are of a good specification. There is a PC with a large touch-screen display for staff use, as well as the facility to dock a staff laptop (provided by school) to the same screen. A wide range of free and licensed software and installed including Office 365 (with OneDrive), the Adobe Creative Cloud suite and AB Tutor.

Curriculum

At GCSE level we deliver the CIE Computer Science IGCSE (9-1). We are currently using Python as our programming language, but this is negotiable. The middle school curriculum aims to develop the digital literacy, computing and information technology knowledge and skills of students. Teaching topics include cyber security, computing theory, programming, website development and the use of IT applications.

Department Vision

We aim to encourage in all of our students:

• an understanding of the importance of technology and its wider applications;

• the knowledge to use technology safely and responsibly;

• the skills to enhance their learning and productivity through the use of IT;

• the wisdom to know when the use of technology is appropriate, and when it is not.

Departmental Extra Curricular Opportunities

Opportunities exist for the post holder to run and develop current middle school robotics clubs and further develop the use of Raspberry Pi and Arduino activities.
