June 3, 2020Exodus 17:11-12 (NIV)As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning. When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up—one on one side, one on the other—so that his hands remained steady till sunset. The story of the conflict between Joshua and the Amalekites gives an encouraging illustration of the joy of intercessory ministry that is open to all of us. In the fluctuations of that battle, the key to final victory was not in the hands of Joshua and his army, but in the hands of Moses and Aaron and Hur on the mountaintop. As long as Moses held up the staff—symbol of his divinely given authority—the battle swayed in favor of Israel. But when Moses became tired and his arm came down, victory turned to defeat. It proved to be the weaponless hands of prayer on the mountain rather than the clash of arms in the valley that controlled the tides of battle. As we watch the demonstrations each night, let us remember that we can pray and prayer is more powerful than arms. Upcoming EventsSunday is the first Sunday in June and we will have our virtual communion during our 10:45 a.m. service. Please remember that every baptized believer can participate. We ask that you have juice and a cracker and we will bless the elements and all eat together. If you do not have juice, you may use water. Yes we are making an exception while we are prevented from meeting together. On Tuesday, June 9, 2020 at 6:30 p.m. we will have our bi-annual Church conference. This will be a very informative meeting and our plan is to have all necessary material in your hands prior to the meeting. The plan is for this to be a virtual meeting and we will communicate to you how to access the meeting. Please look for the email later today with the information for the Church conference.Did You Know?Did you know that we are reaching more people using technology than we did when we were meeting inside the walls of our beloved church? Participation in our weekly Bible studies continues to grow and for that we are thankful. Did you know that Sister Bonita Layson will be holding a training session on using Facebook and our Dial-in number on Thursday, June 4, 2020 at 6:30 p.m.? Just send us your name and email address and we will ensure that you are included.Did you know that when you dial in to our Bible studies that you have the ability to mute your phone?
