Explain briefly and clearly the proposed improvement.Rename the course CIS 2900- Web Application for Business to CIS 2900 – User Experience DesignChange the course description in the catalog from the current one to new one that reflect the name change.E. Rationale. Give your reason(s) for the proposed improvement. (If your proposal includes prerequisites, justify those, too.).CIS 2900 is a required course for Digital Marketing & E-Commerce (DM&EC) Major as well as an elective for the Computer Information Systems major. These proposed changes serve multiple purposes:User experience design is a unique topic that has not yet offered at HCOB or at any other colleges at WMU. It will teach the students the process of designing digital products that are useful, easy to use, and delightful to interact with. It's about enhancing the experience that people have while interacting with your product, and making sure they find value in what you're providing. It fits perfectly with the CIS and the DM&EC major. An informal market analysis of the job market found that there are more than 200,000 jobs available across the USA with a median salary of $ 68,000 and an entry-level salary of $63,000.This content change in the existing course would help students in fulfilling their career goals. User experience design is one of the most sought after skills in the Information Technology, e-commerce and digital marketing area .F. List the student learning outcomes for the proposed course or the revised or proposed major, minor, or concentration. These are the outcomes that the department will use for future assessments of the course or program.?Learn about the skills needed for User Experience research and design??Understand how researchers discover and assess user needs and assess possible designs?Learn to conduct a usability test??Apply sketching and prototyping to develop design concepts?Understand how to incorporate a user-centered focus into the design process??Identify key features of human behavior and describe their impact on the design of interactive systems??Identify and design interactive systems based on human capabilities and behavior??Describe themes from social sciences and human computer interaction and how they relate to interactive system design?G. Describe how this curriculum change is a response to student learning assessment outcomes that are part of a departmental or college assessment plan or informal assessment activities. We performed an informal market analysis by looking at the job demand and salary. We found that there has been a rise in requirement for individuals with user experience design skills. After going through the current content offered in the CIS 2900 course and our market analysis, the Digital Marketing and E-Commerce faculty discussed the need to strengthen usability and user interface design to help students prepare well for the job market.(Undergraduate H. Effect on other colleges, departments or programs. If consultation with others is required, attach evidence of consultation and support. If objections have been raised, document the resolution. Demonstrate that the program you propose is not a duplication of an existing one. There would be no effect on other colleges, departments or programs. There are no undergraduate courses at Western Michigan University that offers a class on User Experience Design. I. Effect on your department's programs. Show how the proposed change fits with other departmental offerings. We do not anticipate that these changes will impact the department's programs. It would make the Digital Marketing and E-commerce and CIS major more attractive to students seeking this type of curriculum, but no immediate changes in enrollment are expected . The students with the user experience design skills make themselves more marketable with the potential employees.J. Effects on enrolled students: are program conflicts avoided? Will your proposal make it easier or harder for students to meet graduation requirements? Can students complete the program in a reasonable time? Show that you have considered scheduling needs and demands on students' time. If a required course will be offered during summer only, provide a rationale. No effect on enrolled student is expected . The course is a required course for the Digital Marketing and E-commerce major and an elective for the CIS major.K. Student or external market demand. What is your anticipated student audience? What evidence of student or market demand or need exists? What is the estimated enrollment? What other factors make your proposal beneficial to students? This has multiple benefits: (1) User interaction is needed everywhere from smartphone apps to desktop applications. Students can apply the knowledge acquired in the course in designing of digital products.(2) An informal market analysis of the job market found that there are more than 200,000 jobs available across the USA with a median salary of $ 68,000 and an entry-level salary of $63,000.This content change in the existing course would help students in fulfilling their career goals. (3) A relevant course name will be more effective at communicating job applicant fitness for employment and specific company roles, and (4) Appropriate naming will signal the true relevancy that the course has to students. With approximately 68 students currently in the DM&EC major, we anticipate that this change will aid in the DM&EC major as well as the growth of the CIS major in coming years. We also expect that renaming the course to offer students a more relevant and practical topic will better reinforce the value provided by CIS degree as well as the DM&EC interdisciplinary degree.L. Effects on resources. Explain how your proposal would affect department and University resources, including faculty, equipment, space, technology, and library holdings. Tell how you will staff additions to the program. If more advising will be needed, how will you provide for it? How often will course(s) be offered? What will be the initial one-time costs and the ongoing base-funding costs for the proposed program? (Attach additional pages, as necessary.)Since CIS 2900 is an existing course, no effect on existing department and university resources are expected.M. With the change from General Education to WMU Essential Studies, this question is no longer used. For courses requesting approval as a WMU Essential Studies course, a syllabus identifying the student learning outcomes and an action plan for assessing the student learning outcomes must be attached in the Banner Workflow system. Not ApplicableN. (Undergraduate proposals only) Describe, in detail, how this curriculum change affects transfer articulation for Michigan community colleges. For course changes, include detail on necessary changes to transfer articulation from Michigan community college courses. For new majors or minors, describe transfer guidelines to be developed with Michigan community colleges. For revisions to majors or minors, describe necessary revisions to Michigan community college guidelines. Department chairs should seek assistance from college advising directors or from the admissions office in completing this section.Since CIS 2900 is a specialized course, we do not anticipate that any of the proposed changes will affect transfer articulation. Historically, transfer students in the major have not attempted to obtain transfer credit for this course.O.
