APA Reference List Format

For books:

Author’s Last name, Initial.(Year of Publication).Title. Place/city of Publication: Publisher.

Clark, B. & Wallace, J. (2006). Making Connections. Scarborough: Prentice Hall.

For electronic sources: Databases

Author. (date). Title of Article. Title of Periodical, volume , page. Retrieval information (which database?), URL of database.

For electronic sources: General internet

Author/Name of sponsoring institution. (date viewed). Title of Site. Editor. Retrieval information ie. URL.

You should have two or three note-making sheets prepared from your first library session..

o Put them in alphabetical order by author’s last name. (For books with no author use the first main word of the title to determine its alphabetical position.)

o List the books in alpha order.

o Follow the pattern above, including exactly the same punctuation, and write up your reference list for the books you used on the first day.

APA Citation Format for Documenting the Ideas of others

Place citations in parentheses within the text at the end of the quotation or paraphrased sentence. You do not need to cite common knowledge, but you must cite information which is someone else’s idea or opinion.
