The Walk to End Lupus Now is the signature event of the Lupus Foundation of America, Inc. The walk is held in more than 50 cities across America, with thousands of people participating. The local event included more than 1,000 participants and was organized by the Connecticut chapter of the Lupus Foundation of America, with the goals of raising awareness, educating the public about lupus, and providing educational programs and services to all people with lupus and their families. The athletics program at the CREC Public Safety Academy, in addition to five other CREC schools, was expanded in the past two years to offer middle school and junior varsity athletics. The program was carefully designed to be an extension of the district’s academic programming, including using athletics as an avenue to get CREC students more involved in the community.
