Neighborhood Association Contacts:

Here is information on this year's Plant Dane! native plant grant program. Please include in your neighborhood newsletters as you see fit.

You may also remind people that they can report their rain garden to me to include in my citywide rain garden map (Genesis Bichanich @ 266-4059 or gbichanich@); I only need an address for a rain garden location.

If the contact info for your Neighborhood Association needs to be updated, please let me know.

Thank you!

Plant Dane! Matching Grant Program in Its Fourth Year The Graham-Martin Foundation, the Madison Area Municipal Storm Water Partnership (MAMSWaP) and Dane County have announced dates for the 2008 Plant Dane! Matching Grant Program. Applications are now online at and are due by 4:00 p.m., Friday, November 16, 2007. Grant recipients will be notified in January 2008 and will need to attend a workshop in February.

Plant Dane!, a matching grant program that provides native plants and seeds as well as education to establish rain gardens and restore prairies, was initiated by MAMSWaP and Dane County through a generous gift from the Graham-Martin Foundation in 2005.

"This grant program stems from the generosity of Mr. Graham. It is a gift that keeps giving," Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk said. "In light of the recent flooding that hit Dane County, rains gardens and prairie restoration projects are even more important."

Homeowners, schools and nonprofit organizations may apply for a matching grant of plants or seeds to establish rain gardens or prairie restoration projects in 2008. The Plant Dane! Grant Program has awarded nearly 200 individuals and organizations with grants in the form of plants and seeds over the past three years, resulting in 200 acres being planted with native species throughout Dane County.

"Rain gardens are an attractive way to clean up our lakes and reduce lawn maintenance time and costs while beautifying your yard," said Marcia Hartwig, MAMSWaP Storm Water Education Coordinator. "We are grateful the Graham-Martin Foundation supports this project, and for how this program helps our lakes, rivers and streams."

The 2008 Plant Dane! Matching Grant Program is possible through a gift from the Graham-Martin Foundation. Municipalities and businesses are not eligible. Grant recipients are required to attend a workshop as a stipulation to receive the matching grant. Grants will be awarded in the form of plants and seeds. Recipients must provide half of the cost of the plant or seed order as a match. No cash awards are given. Projects must be completed in 2008.
