Bob Jones High School Summer Reading Lists

All students are expected to participate in the summer reading program.

Regular English: Students who register for Regular English classes will read two works – one that is required and one that is chosen from a list of three. Students will be tested on the required work the second week of the semester and will be expected to complete a teacher assigned project on the choice novel that will be due the fourth week of the semester.

Regular 10th Grade:

Required: The Call of the Wild – Jack London

Choose 1 of the following:

Alive - Piers Paul Read

Whirligig - Paul Fleischman

Make Lemonade – Virginia E. Wolff

Regular 11th Grade:

Required: The Boy in the Striped Pajamas – John Boyne

Choose 1 of the following: Mississippi Trial of 1955 - Chris Crowe

Breathing Underwater – Alex Flinn

Thirteen Reasons Why - Jay Asher

Regular 12th Grade:

Required: The Five People You Meet in Heaven – Mitch Albom

Choose 1 of the following: Stormbreakers - Anthony Horowitz

Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde – Robert Louis Stevenson

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time - Mark Haddon

Honors and AP English: Students who register for Honors or AP English will read two works and will need to get a copy of the assignment that is due the first day of class. Copies of the assignment can be found on the Madison City website, at the front desk, and in the folders outside the English classrooms.

Honors 10th Grade:

Honors 11th Grade:

Honors 12th Grade
