Parish Council:

Councillors held a Zoom meeting in November. Suffolk County Councillor Spicer said libraries remained open and the recycling centre needs booking. The PC have responded to the SCC draft boundary changes, discussed with Councillor Spicer. We wait for a decision about the installation of another VAS pole and for a resolution of the flooding at Willow Green. Councillor Smith gave information about the West Suffolk Local Plan. He also said that Bury Market remains open. The next meeting of the PC will be on 18th January 2021. Parish Councillors and the Clerk wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy 2021.

Village leaflets

Members of the PC deliver “Welcome to the Village” and Heritage Walks leaflets to new arrivals. If you are new to the village and have not received them, please contact the undersigned. For those who would like updated copies, they are available at the village hall or from. Rob Williams rgcw423@

Dog Owners

We have some excellent walks in the villages, so please do not spoil them by not clearing up after your dog and have had complaints about fouled footpaths. We have a legal responsibility to clear up after our dogs.

Rural Pastimes

It is hoped that Rural Pastimes will go ahead on the 13th of June, even if it is in a slightly different format.

Ian and Sue Lord have done a Stirling job organising the Classic Cars, for several years but are no longer able to continue, so we need someone to take over. Ian has a team of helpers for setting up and will explain what is needed, if you would like to volunteer. Please contact him on 268483 ian.sue.lord@

SUPPORT FOR NHS

Whilst we all want to demonstrate our support of our Care Workers, please do not use

fireworks to do so, as this causes unnecessary distress to livestock and some pets. We all

expect them around the 5th of November and take appropriate action.

BONFIRES

Not all garden vegetation cannot be composted and our Brown Bins are not being collected.

If you find it necessary to have a bonfire, please determine the wind before you light it, to

ensure it does not affect your neighbours. Wait until the wind is blowing the smoke away

from houses

Honington & Sapiston Village Hall:

Here at the hall we can’t wait to welcome you all back when it is safe to do so and wait to hear the way forward for Christmas and New Year. As you know, over the past few years, we have had a super Christmas party. I will miss this event, as I know all of you who have attended in previous years will.

Huge thanks to Linda Howe who once again has come up trumps, with another grant to enable us to continue with the takeaway service and grateful thanks to Sue Jay who puts up with me every Friday helping me with the prep on the Friday takeaway. For those who are internet savvy please check out our Facebook page for the latest news on up and coming events, start dates for groups returning to the hall. These can also be found on website and noted in the Hub which has been gratefully received by so many parishioners.

Honington Scout Group:

The Beavers started the month with a night hike around Knettishall Heath, before lockdown. We collected some natural craft material and stopped to look at the dark! In our next meeting we made some animals from the materials found. We learnt to draw using a YouTube tutorial and have dressed up as Saints Edmund and Andrew! The last Saturday of the month is usually a meeting, as a district, for the Beaveree, this will continue with an afternoon of thanksgiving activities via zoom. The Cubs enjoyed a district quiz, created a campfire atmosphere and enjoyed spooky stories, and have made their Christmas cakes. The scouts made flag bunting, played team games and have started their mechanics badge, by doing some basic car maintenance for their parents. We have observed Remembrance Day and asked members to observe the 2 minutes silence on their doorstep on Sunday the 8th. We are hopeful to be able to meet face to face in December, in the run up to Christmas. Jan Neary, 1sthoningtonrafscoutgroup@

News from the Estate

December. Sugar beet harvesting continues but the yield was very poor in October. I’m glad to say things have improved, with the yield at 2½ articulated lorry loads per football field. We are busy cutting lots of firewood to meet the demand. The wood was harvested in July 2018 and is stored in big heaps, before being transported back to the farm. Processing involves putting it through a machine that cuts it 10” long. The logs are then stored, in the dry, until delivery. At the point of loading, the logs go through a cleaner that shakes off any loose bark, dust and dirt before delivery. All the cereals get a spray before winter and at the start of this month we started to pump the water from the river to the reservoirs for winter storage. Best wishes Matthew at Euston Farms.

School

All classes have been busy in school and attendance has been very high this term. We had a non-uniform day for Children in Need and raised £248 for the charity, and we raised an amazing £215 for the Poppy Appeal. We are now busy getting ready for Christmas - although we are not able to have our Christmas Fair this year, we are still holding a Christmas Raffle and a Name the Bear Competition for the children. We would like to wish all the residents of Honington and Sapiston a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year.

Church News:

There will be a wedding held in church on 6th December and we wish the couple every happiness.

We are hoping to hold services in church over Christmas and there will be Doorstep Carols with Radio Suffolk on 16th December at 6pm. ALSO a Drive-in Carol Service held in Euston Park on 20th December at 4pm with Bishop Martin in attendance.
