Classroom Rules

Take turns and share

Raise your hand

Be kind and respectful

Be a good listener

Follow directions

Use inside voices

Keep hands and feet to oneself

If a student chooses to break a classroom rule, every effort will be made to handle classroom discipline in a positive manner. Polite warnings will be given when appropriate; however, if a child does not respond and continues to violate a rule, the following steps will be taken.

Each child will begin the day with a clip on the green “Let’s Rock and Roll” zone. After two verbal warnings, the child will then be asked to move their clip to the yellow “Singing the Blues” zone. The student will be asked to sit in time out for the inappropriate behavior displayed. Students who stay on yellow will still receive their daily sticker. (It does not matter what color or type of sticker is on the chart. As long as there is a sticker they had a good day!) If a student continues to not follow the rules, then they will be asked to move their clip to the orange “Tour Date Cancelled” zone. The student will then have silent lunch (time depends on behavior) OR lose center time for the continued inappropriate behavior displayed. Students who stay on orange will lose their daily sticker. For severe and continuous disruptions the student will move their clip to the red “Speak with Management” zone where they will get a note/phone call home/possible trip to the principal’s office, and they will not be permitted to visit the treat jar on Friday. Students who are caught going above and beyond expectations will get a chance to move their clip to the blue “Stellar Performance” zone. Those students will be recognized for their outstanding behavior with panther tickets, which gives them a chance for FREE ice cream on Friday’s. For those students who show extraordinary behavior, (which will not be given out loosely and should not be expected daily), will move their clip to the purple, “Rock Star” zone. Those students will get a panther ticket and a “Kiss Your Brain” Hershey Kiss for their outstanding behavior!

If your child stays on the green for the day, they will receive a sticker on their behavior chart. If they have four stickers for the entire week, they will visit the treat jar on Friday. In your child’s MES Panther Folder, there will be a monthly behavior chart that needs to be initialed and returned each day. Please leave their behavior chart in their folder for the month!

Through our mutual efforts, this should be a period of great excitement and learning. Please review the rules and consequences with your child often. I am looking forward to working with you and your child this year.

Thank you,

Jennifer Sawyer
