Classroom Management Plan - High Point University

Classroom Management Plan

Welcome to our classroom! This is a room that you, your children, the teacher assistant and I will share during this school year. It is our goal to provide a learning environment that is productive, fun and safe. Children will benefit from our classroom management plan by learning to be responsible and accountable for their actions.

Our class rules:

1. I will respect others and myself too.

2. I will use a quiet voice.

3. I will sit nicely on the carpet and raise my hand when we are working together.

4. I will keep my hands and feet to myself.

5. I will walk in the school.

In our classroom there will be a poster with ladybugs pictured on it with each child having their own ladybug. Each morning every child will start the day with four dots on their ladybug. If at the end of the day a child has all of their dots he/she will be given a sticker. If a child has lost a dot they will not receive a sticker. A behavior card will be sent home every Thursday. You should look at it, sign it and returned it on Friday. This card will show you how your child’s behavior has been for the week. This system will help teach the children the importance of accepting responsibility for their actions.

If a child misbehaves or breaks a rule:

1. He/she is given a verbal reminder about the correct way to behave.

2. The second offense will require the child to remove one dot from their ladybug.

3. The third offense will result in losing another dot and three minutes in the timeout chair.

4. The fourth offense will result in the loss of their third dot and a phone call is made to their parents.

5. The fifth offense they will lose their fourth dot and they will be sent to the principal.

A child may receive a dot back if behavior greatly improves or they are seen doing something to help someone else without being told. An example of this would be helping someone clean up, holding the door for someone or helping the teacher.

To finish off our day we will use a marble jar. If a child has not lost any dots they may add a marble to the jar. If they have lost dots they must remove as many marbles from the jar as they have lost dots. When the marble jar is full the class will be able to pick from one of the following rewards:

✓ Pizza party in the classroom!

✓ Ice cream sundae party in the classroom!

✓ Warm “Fuzzies” for everyone in the classroom! (Small stuffed animals)

The marble jar is a way to teach the children that their behavior affects others as well as themselves. Each child can contribute or take away from the marble jar depending on their behavior. If a child returns their behavior card signed on Friday they will add an extra marble to the jar. Learning accountability, responsibility and cooperation builds good self-esteem and character. A child with good self-esteem is a happy child who enjoys learning and does well in school

Thank You,
