TELEPHONE ADVICE

Sometimes when you need advice regarding a health problem it may be appropriate to request a telephone call from a doctor. It is important to ring before 10.30 am to make this request. We ask that you provide a number you can be contacted on throughout the morning as it is not possible to make repeated calls to unanswered phone calls.

This service is not available in the afternoon.

HOME VISITS – for patients who are housebound or patients who are too ill to visit the practice.

Should a home visit be necessary, please try to ring the surgery before 10:30am on the same day. This will help the doctor plan his rounds and can avoid unnecessary delays.

Please remember a doctor can see several patients at surgery in the time it may take to carry out one home visit. This means that the Doctor can use time more effectively and can also respond quickly to emergencies that may arise.

WHEN THE SURGERY IS CLOSED

A doctor is always on call for emergencies. Outside surgery hours there will be a message on our phone system advising when the surgery will re-open. The North Down and Ards On Call Service is located at Ards Hospital, telephone number 028 91 822344. Following contact the Duty Doctor will either offer you advice over the telephone, or arrange for you to attend for a consultation if required. However if the doctor feels that you really need a home visit, then this will be arranged.

Patients must phone the “Doctors on Call” service before attending the base. The Out-of-Hours service is provided for medical emergencies which cannot wait until the next surgery.

TREATMENT ROOM

The Practice Nurse is fully qualified to carry out health promotion, blood pressure checks, taking blood, immunisations, dressings, removal of sutures, ear syringing etc. Our Practice Nurse also assists with minor surgery and other clinical procedures. Consultations with the Practice Nurse are on an appointment basis only and can be booked with the receptionist. Please note that the treatment room is closed from 11:30am on Fridays.

TEST RESULTS

When a doctor arranges a blood test, x-ray or other investigation, they will advise you when to contact the surgery for the result. In order to safeguard patient confidentiality, test results will only be given to the patient concerned. When inquiring for a result, please telephone between 2:30pm and 4:00pm when all results will have been received and reported on by a doctor.
