Using Rufus.exe to create the installation media (USB flash drive)

1. Download Rufus from here: 2. Download the Linux OS installation .iso file from here:

a. There are a few different versions of Ubuntu 18.04 i.e. at the time of this writing Feb 4th, 2021, Ubuntu 18.04.5 LTS is the latest version but the kernel version included with it is 5.x.xx which isn't in the IO Libraries Suite (IOLS) kernel drivers supported list. Even if you do install this version, you can still install an older kernel version later and make sure to run it from GRUB. However, additional steps are involved and are out of the scope of this document.

b. Try getting an older version of Ubuntu like 18.04.2 as this includes a kernel version of 4.15.x that is supported by IOLS kernel drivers.

6. After installation completes and desktop is loaded, I disable all automatic software upgrades to stop Ubuntu from updating to 20.04 LTS or changing anything else without me realizing it.

7. The Kernel version is 5.4.0-42-generic with Ubuntu 18.04.5 LTS .iso so we need to downgrade the kernel before installing IO Libraries Suite (IOLS) or the IOLS kernel drivers.

8. The Kernel version is 4.15.0-20-generic with Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS .iso which will work with IOLS installer and kernel driver directly.

9. Now, you can download the IOLS installer and kernel driver from find/iolibs download page for Linux OS. Change the permission via the command line below to be executable and start the installations. Run installers with sudo or after logging in as root.
