DEPARTMENT: Career Management

REPORTS TO: Senior HBA Career Advisor

____________________________________________________________________________

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION:

The Undergraduate Business Career Coach will work with other members of the Student Coaching team to develop and deliver an integrated suite of Career Management (CM) services and programming. The focus is on helping Honors Business Administration (HBA) students create and implement a personal career strategy which can best position them to achieve career success. Included in this support is helping students determine which recruiting channels they will need to focus upon as well as ensuring that each HBA student is aware of how to access these channels and ultimately be effective in securing their first career role following graduation from Ivey. The Career Coach (or HBA Career Advisor) works closely with the CM Client Relations team to understand the needs of Ivey’s Corporate Partners and serve as a bridge between students and our recruiter stakeholders.

The three critical channels for Ivey’s HBA students to access their first career roles out of the business school include:

i) Formal on campus recruiting as conducted by organizations that have historic relationships with Ivey and work with Career Management’s Client Relations team to place job postings on our internal job board, interview and do other recruiting and branding events on campus.

ii) Standard corporate recruiting programs typically implemented by organizations that have not historically worked with Ivey but whom work with our Client Relations team to post a job on Ivey’s internal job board.

iii) “Relationship-based recruiting” where students need to strategize and implement a specific plan that ensures they are able to find influential contacts in their industry/function of choice who can help them sell themselves and/or assist students in uncovering undisclosed opportunities.

The HBA Career Advisor has two primary objectives:

A) Programming/Service Design and Support:

They are also involved in the implementation of a structured Peer Advisor program that takes into account the variety of corporate employment practices (recruiting approaches, interview formats, etc.) our students can expect to face.

B) Skills Coach to Students

The HBA Career Advisor works closely with students to develop the individuals’ communications strategy and skills necessary to prepare the students for career selection, interviews and long term career management planning.
