Job Description

|Role Title: Safeguarding Case Worker (initial contract 12 months to be reviewed thereafter) |

|Main Purpose of Role: |

|The main purpose of the Case Worker role is to: |

| |

|Assist the DSA and ADSA in investigating allegations of abuse, ensuring that they are appropriately referred to the statutory authorities |

|and ensuring the provision of appropriate advice and support to survivors and victims of abuse; |

|Assist the DSA and ADSA in ensuring that those that pose a risk are appropriately supported and managed; |

|Lead on the effective development of the Parish Safeguarding Officer role in the Diocese working with PSOs, supporting them to implement |

|national policy and training requirements locally; |

|Assist the Safeguarding Trainer in the delivery of national and local training programmes; |

|Accountability: |

|The Case Worker is accountable to, and line managed by, the DSA. |

|Relevant officers in the various statutory authorities such as Local Authority Designated Officers (LADOs), key local authority adult and |

|children’s services officers, Probation Offender Managers and Police Officers responsible for Offender management, NHS/CCG Safeguarding |

|Principal Responsibilities (including limits of responsibility) and Principal Tasks: |

| |

|Undertake safeguarding casework on behalf of the DSA and ADSA to ensure all case work undertaken by the DST is in accordance with the House|

|of Bishop safeguarding policy and guidance and attend Core Group meetings as necessary and as directed by DSA |

|Provide professional safeguarding advice and support to the Parish Safeguarding Officers and ensure that their responses to safeguarding |

|concerns or allegations against church officers are in line with the House of Bishop safeguarding policy and guidance |

|Work as directed by the DSA with statutory agencies and other organisations in safeguarding cases connected to the diocese or parishes, to |

|ensure that an appropriate and coordinated response is made to those who have suffered abuse or have perpetrated abuse |

| |

|To take the lead role in assessing Bleamished DBS applications and assessments of risk as directed by the DSA |

|To take a lead in working with the DSA to produce a Diocesan Safeguarding Newsletter on behalf of the Safeguarding Team three times per |

|year |

|Give advice, information and support to victim/survivors of abuse and identify any need for support, bringing to the attention of the DSA |

|any gaps in provision and to work with the ADSA in establishing a resource bank of support for survivors |

|To work alongside the Safeguarding Trainer in the provision of safeguarding training in line with national policy to ensure that all those |

|working as church officers are suitably trained. |

|Assist the DSA and the ADSA to provide information and guidance to contribute to the effective work of the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisory |

|Panel [DSAP], developing and maintaining a good working relationship with the Independent |

| |

|Give advice, information and support to PCCs and parish safeguarding officers on the implementation of House of Bishop’s safeguarding |

|policy and practice guidance |

| |

|To promote the highest standards of safeguarding practice and bring to the attention of the DSA where there are disputes and non-compliance|

| |

|Ensure that all records are kept accurately, securely and in line with National Policy. |

| |

|Work collaboratively with the National Safeguarding Team and attend national / regional events and activities, as agreed with the DSA |

| |

|Relevant Qualifications and Experience required (if job were to be advertised): |

| |

|Essential |

|Education & Qualifications: |

|Degree level or above. |

|Relevant professional qualification or equivalent (for example, social care or criminal justice), with current professional registration |

|where applicable. |

|The equivalent of level 3 or above training accreditation in child or adult protection with ability to demonstrate transferrable knowledge |

|across the client groups. |

|Hold a full driving licence and have access to a car for business purposes. |

|Knowledge/Experience: |

|Experience of working in the area of safeguarding children and or adults; |

|Experience of contributing to policy and practice development and implementation; |

|Experience of applying policies, procedures and good practice in relation to the safeguarding and protection of children/adults; |

|Experience of undertaking safeguarding risk assessments; |

|Knowledge of and experience of applying safeguarding legislation, guidance and best practice; |

|Knowledge of the statutory framework in relation to safeguarding children and adults; |

|Practitioner experience of working with victims or survivors of abuse, including adults with mental health issues; |

|Experience of working with a range of statutory and non-statutory organisations in safeguarding cases, including managing allegations |

|against people in positions of trust and the management of those who may pose a risk. |

| |

|Skills/Aptitudes: |

|Understanding of safeguarding in its social and political context and have an appreciation of the workings of the Christian faith; |

|Good verbal communications skills and ability to produce clear written records and reports; |

|Ability to work sensitively with survivors, those who are subject to allegations and/or those that may pose a risk; |

|Ability to manage and analyse complex and sensitive information and assess risk; |

|Ability to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders connected to a caseload; |

|Demonstrable ability to be part of and contribute to work of the safeguarding team as part of a large national institution and to work |

|collegially with specialist and non-specialist colleagues; and |

|Ability to contribute directly to the delivery of safeguarding training to safeguarding professionals as well as other stakeholders. |

|A willingness and ability to work flexibly outside of normal office hours where needed to ensure safeguarding casework is managed |
